2014 Nissan GT-R more performance
http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...n-gt-r-preview
See more video » Nissan’s practice of continually offering upgrades for its R35 GT-R shows no signs of slowing, with the Japanese automaker today announcing a new round of revisions for its giant-killing supercar. Coming in for the 2014 model year, the latest version of the GT-R has been enhanced with increased performance, improved ride and handling, and greater customization. You may recall that Nissan entered a stock GT-R in the Nürburgring 24 Hours this year, an endurance race in which the car emerged a winner in its class and 30th overall. As the car’s chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno explained at the time, the purpose of competing was to test reliability and durability issues in order to refine the GT-R over the remainder of its life-cycle. For the 2014 Nissan GT-R, this has led to improved engine response in both the mid- and upper-rev range, increased body rigidity, and numerous changes to the shock absorbers, springs and front stabilizer. Sadly, there’s been no increase in power so peak output remains at 545 horsepower and 463 pound-feet of torque. Nevertheless, the vehicle's overall performance is said to have increased, high-speed stability improved, and ride quality made more refined. Nissan boasts the car's new Nürburgring lap time is 7:18:6--more than 20 seconds faster than the lap time of the original R35 that debuted in 2007. Specific changes to the powertrain include high-output fuel injectors that more precisely control fuel injection to improve mid-range engine response and acceleration at higher revs, revised turbochargers that help maintain boost pressure for longer at high revs, and improved circulation of the engine oil to reduce internal friction. Moving onto the chassis, Nissan engineers managed to reduce the car’s center of gravity by adjusting the suspension bushings and tires. This is in addition to revising the shock absorbers and front stabilizer. Cam bolts have also been installed on the front suspension to improve camber accuracy and maintainability of alignment settings, and a number of bolts have had their torque increased to improve reliability in track situations. 2014 Nissan GT-R (Japanese spec) Finally, reinforcements were added at two locations in the dash panel bar and instrument panel member, which Nissan says results in improved suspension performance and increased body rigidity. Overseas, Nissan has also launched a new Premium Edition trim, which adds Semi-Aniline leather and more options for customizing the cabin. The automaker is also offering carbon bucket seats from Recaro as a factory option. Specifications and pricing for the 2014 Nissan GT-R in the U.S. should be announced closer to the car’s local launch early next yea |

I don't know. Personally I would take less performance if they wrapped it in a better looking body. There can be no denying that Nissan has created a performance benchmark car. I just wish it wasn't so damn ugly.

Nice. Always good to see improvements to the GTR every year. Can't wait to see the successor too.

I dunno... the 2004 was pretty ****ty.. and saying yours is better than a 2012.. well, maybe if you consider atrocious ride quality and looking more like a 1990s Hyundai a virtue.

I bash my head in at least twice a year for letting my 2005 STi go. I also bash my head in at least 4 times a year when I see a GR hatchback, should have bought one when I had the $$$. |

Engine-wise, in 2008 the STi got dual ACVS and the VF48 (improvement over VF39/VF43). The new chassis is stiffer, there's less noise/vibration on the newer cars due to the framed windows and it handles better than the GD STIs. It's also roomier and is available with leather and a sunroof if those things matter. You can hate on the looks, because looks are subjective, but the fact remains that the new STIs outperform the old STIs; same with the newer WRXs vs older WRXs.

These constant updates are pushing the 2010 models in the 65K range, and now I'm tempted to buy one.

Do they still only come with paddle shifters?
I don't understand why they can't offer a manual trans, with a car like this. |

There are other cars in the same class that offer a manual transmission. If I had the money, the trans selection would not deter me from buying one. Usually, people who complain about the transmission will never have the funds to buy one anyways.

Prior to its debut, I hoped the GTR would have a manual trans option. But it doesn't make sense at all. The only point of the MT anymore is to add that dimension to the driving experience. The GTR is a speed robot, this does not compute. "Fun? But.. Slower? Character? Whaaaat?" For people with money who are also actual driving enthusiasts, there will always be 911s and M3s with MT option. Just make way and let the GTRs pass on the track. I also hoped the GTR would be under $70k, and it sorta was. But before my buying window even closed (i.e. I gathered my senses) huge dealer markups became the rule and it blasted off to the moon shortly thereafter. This year it will probably start over $100k and typically sticker $110k. These improvements will be cited. |
