I think that they have an Sti with an option pack (OPC 92) that is equal with a Spec C with A/C.
The air-oil cooler was an option for the Spec C. I think it may be OPC94. If we were to think for a minute that there was a package for an Sti, to get a VF36 and not be a Spec C, this is not that weird, because the complete car could still be an Sti. It would have the non spec C suspension, have the full Sti weight components, no crank rear windows, etc. Here we would love to get that stripped down, lightweight spec C, but if it was readily available, it would probably do like the base line Evo 8. It was cheaper, but people did not prefer to buy it, by a large proportion. So then you offer much like Chevy and others, option packages.. As far as what would the option pacage of the Sti do to the immobilizer? I have no clue, but my first reaction would be that it's probably immobilized. The only reason (under my opinion) to not have an immobilizer with the Spec C in V9 was to show a commitment to lightweight construction. A full weight Sti with a Spec C engine would go to a different customer, I would think.

Picked my v7 with matching transmission today from jdmracingmotors. Robert and everyone there took great care of me. The motor is pretty spotless considering its the better part of ten years old. I live in VT so I decided to pick it up in person since it was only 2 hours away. Would recommend them to anyone looking for a 207.

Looking at these options and such, I started to wonder why none of the no-A/C Spec C engines are surfacing yet..
Where they that rarely sold new? I wonder if the ROM is different for those, from the factory. One of those in a Spec C V9 would be very easily id-ed as Spec C and most likely non-immobilized. |

I think it could be another one of those lies that spreads since I have seen articles saying the spec-C has no AC but they show a motor shot and there is the AC compressor. I cant imagine there is any reason to run a different rom on a car with no AC, the group N rom has a provision for AC. AC might not be a bad thing to have either during a rally, what if your windows fog up? |

What's the difference between the EJ207 and EJ208? I picked up a JDM Legacy B4 RSK with the EJ208 and plan on swapping it into my Outback. The brake booster appears to be the only big issue. I don't have an Impreza, but the Outback guys are pretty useless with info!

You know already that I susbscribe to this idea, so I do have evidence that these exist, that's why I'm bringing them up. So I will get the info out little-by-little, now at work cannot handle photos. As far as the ROM, I was refering to the settings. I have somewhere a photo of an engine compartment of these, with the no A/C setup. It's a normal engine bay, not a rally engine bay. I have knowledge that the engine code reflects the lack of A/C in the code's last character. Like I posted in the EJ207 info thread, the factory produced a dedicated part for these no A/C engines, it's a metal belt cover. The no A/C engine does away with the top plastic belt cover and replaces it with a metal one, half-size obviously. I was able to locate this part in the parts software, and correlate it to the spec C engine. It's from a Spec C, coded by the factory as RASC. This is not a rally car, but a Spec C type Ra. Since these are 3 independent sources, I can say that this is not a legend. I think that neither the with A/C EJ207 nor the without A/C are options. I looked at the USDM parts and there was a 2000 TS, I think, where some had A/C and some did not. Neither was listed as an option, the A/C goes in the description collumn and the part number of the engine changes. There were additional differences in the no A/C cars that I will not get into at this stage, I'll stick to just the engines. Photos Last edited by Vlad; 11-09-2012 at 06:28 PM. |

I've dealt with JDMRacing for 4 transactions now. I've spent over 10Gs with them. They've always been good to be up until recently. I got a V9 motor and was supposed to get a V8 ecu because of the immobilizer issue. Not only did I not get a V8 ecu but I got a V7 intercooler and Robert has not responded to my PMs.

I was just shocked after I'd heard good things they'd send me poorly packaged stuff and then tell me to just deal with it.

I got my setup from japandomesticmotor.com, dealt with Wais. I got a full engine swap package, only thing I had to buy outside of the engine purchase was the avcs wiring harness. I paid $3500 shipped for my 2003 ver 8 engine including a down pipe and ecu. The intercooler was missing the recirculation valve, he sent one out as soon as informed him of it been missing, no hassle no run around. I could have purchased a ver 8 spec c from him for $3900 shipped.
I definitely recommend them, they also have a 60 day return policy vs the 30 days all the other JDM vendors seem to have. I installed a gates racing timing belt kit, oem thermostat, NGK iridium BKR7EIX #2667, oem oil filter and semi synthetic oil for initial start up and later changed to rotella t6. I also got a Tomei down pipe and a borla hush catback. It was very simple to just add a couple of inches to the intermediate pipe to get the U.S market catback to work with the JDM length down pipe. Check out oakos.com for the gates timing belt kit, they had the best price. Last edited by D-Rodman; 11-09-2012 at 09:12 PM. |

There is also supposedly a version that has no ABS and a viscous center diff (AA and CA tranny codes) perhaps they are along the same idea of the factory stripped down no frills chassis. Last edited by lukeskywrx; 11-09-2012 at 10:32 PM. |

No, there was a posting years ago by Simon from Prodrive where he mentioned that they buy from Subaru these cars, because they are lighter and cheaper, more suitable.
There was never any mention of Subaru restricting anything about selling them, that wouldn't make sense anyway. There is nothing theoretical about buying this car. The ABS was not some kind of feature. ABS and DCCD were incompatible, upto when the Sti started in the US. So they had 2 options: no ABS with DCCD or viscous with Sports ABS. With the 04 , they started to have the technology to make both work, so they offered both together in Sti and spec C. Last edited by Vlad; 11-10-2012 at 01:18 AM. |
