Started my car yesterday afternoon, after it had been sitting at work all day, and the blue light didn't come on. That's when you know it's hot outside!

Default Couple questions

I just bought a new black 2012 Impreza premium and I have a few questions. First of all, I think I want to get the hood diffuser thing that goes right on the front tip of the hood. I don't know what this is called and where to get it. Also What are my options on roof racks for this? I see that there are the spots to do it but I can't quite find where to get it. Thank you for the response.

If you scroll down a few threads, you'll find one dedicated to roof rack options. Plenty of info there. . .

Thanks! That's much better than the skinny 10mm on the '09 Civic I traded in to get this.

Stopped by the dealer this afternoon as the oil on my dipstick has moved to the middle mark. Had an interesting conversation with the tech while I was there. He just returned from a school for the BRZ but he told me that the oil issues with the 2012 Impreza came up as well. He said "THERE MAY" (obviously he can't say "THERE IS") be a design flaw with the low tension rings. He also told me that they told the techs to recommend, to any customer having issues, That they carry extra oil with them. Sounds like Subaru may have the beginnings of a massive stink on their hands. At least they are acknowledging that the issue exists.

Whelp this is going to suck if that is true although running a thicker oil im guessing with take care of 95% of the oil issues. Thats a pretty easy fix.

When i first read that i thought that was a mistake to design it like that.

Yeah, we talked about running 5w-20 in the future but he said he wouldn't recommend that until the drive train warranty is out at 60k. JIC

Furious, how long did it take to get to the halfway mark on the dipstick?

Tinkered around this morning with my headlights. Comment below in bold.

If you look on the driver's side at the back of the headlight assembly you can easily see the one adjustment screw, but to show where the other is look where my finger is pointing, it's down in there pretty far. [Not sure what this knob is for. I made some very minor adjustments and didn't seem to notice any difference. Of course I tinkered during the daytime mind you. Will tinker again tonight when I make the refined adjustments.]

you'd have to attack this one from underneath, if you have a really short phillips screwdriver. [I used a phillips bit which worked perfectly.]

Anyone think that with the reduced tension that our cars rings will last longer (200k+) because they wont wear as fast?

I would not loose sleep over the oil consumption issues. If it is widespread then SOA will take care of it. I know the thought of it can be daunting, but there is no use worrying about it.

I must say I'm not surprised, but very disheartened to hear this. Wonder how long it'll take Subaru to come up with a plan of action to fix this potential issue. I know I for one am not going to own this car for very long if subaru's only "solution" is to carry extra oil around with me. I can't imagine many others will accept this either.

That's how I've felt from the beginning. That and it's under warranty.

At the rate im going. I'll be at 60k by this time next year. I believe I was one of the first people to experience the low oil light and now they seem to be coming out of the woodwork. This is not something that Subaru is going to be able to ignore and hope it goes away.

I agree, if this is indeed a problem, Subaru will fix it. People need to not freak out and be paranoid. In the past Subaru has made things right with engine issues. The '08 STI was notorious for blowing motors. Subaru took care of it. Subaru is pretty good with covering for warranty work, unless you have crazy mods - which 99% of people won't do with the '12 Impreza.

I'm at 7,800k (2,800 on current oil) and there hasn't been any oil consumption. I can only hope it stays that way.

This really sucks! This will be my second consecutive brand new car with a "potential" major engine problem. I traded in my '09 Civic EX in February to get my Subaru because the 2006 to early 2009 R18 engine blocks in the Civic's could crack and now this....lovely.

I would have thought the same. But the tech seems to think that the issues are not with the weight at operating temp but with the 0 zero weight at startup.
