I was hoping to offer some helpful insight to others, if they are considering the option of the spoiler, I would strongly advise against it if they plan on running boxes, racks, kayaks, ect. There is a potential for interference.

There were no vehicles on the lot that I could have done a test fit with or measured to. If they would have had an Impreza with a spoiler and roof rails, I would have brought my bars, boxes, and racks and done a test fit on the lot with a different car before I placed the deposit on mine. I was forced to rely on the expertise of others, which was the dealer, and it turns out the information that they gave me was incorrect.

so you relied on the expertise of ppl who don't even have the car that sounds iffy. You should have come to nasioc and asked other owners with bike racks, boxes and etc and they would have given you all the info you needed. Sales ppl have no idea about the cars they sell, that is generally a universal thing thats why we have threads on nasioc for example my dealership told me...

Ha.... The tow hook was also used. I was in the car as they pulled it onto the flat bed. The front right wheel was jammed back into the wheel well and wouldnt turn, so they put all 4 wheels on little slip "skates" and slit the entire thing up with the e-brake on and the car in gear. The Lower controller arm and a bunch of other crap was all fubar. It might be possible... just maybe.. that I was going too fast and stupidly applied the brakes in the turn. The embarrassing part... it was in a Best Buy parking lot, not even on a fun road. UGH. Go ahead and laugh.

The footwell LEDs I installed were from AutoZone. Wired them into the Illumination wire lead to teh factory stereo head unit. They behave in the same way the dash illumination does. On when driving or headlights are on, dimmable with dash dimmer. I used black tape and covered over half of the 12 LEDs (in a strip) that I installed on each side. They were too bright. I really like them now. I like to dim my dash for dark night driving anyway, so it works perfect for me.

How does everyone with the Yakima Whispbar S54 feel about the mounting to the sport rails? Is it secure, or is anyone scared of it flying off with heavy loads or on the freeway? I had one dealer tell me he had a bunch of returns on the S54 (and similar models) because the attachment to the rails isn't a complete wrap around the rail (vs a Thule type model)

Currently deciding between the S54 and the S16...

When I put mine on I was able to shake the car around but not the rail. It felt like it was on pretty tight if that helps. In addition they really don't seem to add any more sound.

I have the Yakima Whispbar S54 on my Impreza. They clamp down nicely to the stock roof rails. I don't think they're going anywhere, as long as you clamp them down tightly. I've loaded up 2 14 ft kayaks on Yakima Bowdown J-bars. Drove 4 hours on the NYS Thruway going 70mph and took the car through the winding roads of the Adirondacks. Kayaks, J-bars and crossbars were all completely secure from start to finish.

After pimping ORS Racks for their red hot sale, half off, they sent me the wrong fairing. We will see if they can make it right before I have to move to Colorado

ORS shipped my new fairing today, and sent a return shipping label for the one shipped. Excellent service and they have a return customer

Why don't Subaru have a similar OEM roofrack as the 2012 Outback on the Impreza?

The crossbars fold out!

The rails are useless without the crossbars!

those fold out...

It is an Inno Medium faring: http://www.amazon.com/inno-Inno-Fairing/dp/B002WZ8NC8
I covered it with a carbon fiber vinyl and put the Subaru letters on it. You can get the letters on ebay for about 8 bucks.

Aaaahhh, I see. I looked around for a bit before asking for the link because I couldn't find any that looked like that. Nice DIY !

Finally received and installed my Whispbar cross bars this afternoon. Install takes all of 5 minutes, and so far so good. In my opinion they look great, and seem very secure on the side rails. I can rock the entire car back and forth and the bars don't move anywhere.

I'll be able to tell more tomorrow if they truly are as quiet as they claim to be. I hope so!

Update: I'm pretty disappointed on the added wind noise coming from the car at 60 mph+. Anyone else have this issue with the whispbar? I know the impreza has wind noise even without the rack, but I'd say it is twice as loud with it

Bummer!

Wow, sorry to hear that Druuu88. I almost went the Wispbar route instead of the OE aerobars (thinking they'd be the quietest option out there without having to use a fairing.)

Glad I saved the $$$ and went the factory route. They definitely added noise at highway speed, even though some say they don't. They do!

I guess we'll both need to add a fairing to get rid of the added noise..

Edit: I still like the look of the Wispbars over the OE Aerobars regardless of price / added noise!

Ha try the square bars then try to complain. I am hoping to save my sanity by getting my fairing installed this weekend.

This is interesting. I use the Thule square bars when I carry my 16 cubic foot Yakima Skybox, and I don't hear any additional noise (from the bars or the box). Perhaps the Skybox reduces the noise that the bars alone would generate?

That's good to what I have the thule squares and want / need / must have a box. Currently we carry bikes and kayaks but the noise is audible without the fairing

Do the subaru factory aero rails have enough width to fit a bike rack and possibly a small cargo box? Trying to decide on the factory aero bars or the whispbars. Only have a bike rack at the moment, but someday ill have a box to throw up there too and would like both to fit.

Don't bother with the OEM aero rails. They are flimsy crap and are thin as soda cans.
