Why the outrage at fiberglass? You know the body is made out of it, right?

The modern vette bodies are made out of SMC, a reinforced plastic.
The bumpers are made out of urethane.. because they're bumpers and aren't supposed to show damage from a 3mph impact. Fiberglass cracks from very mild impacts. Fiberglass bumpers almost invariably develop cracks.. even ricers know this. |

The car isn't even out yet, I'm sure there will be SMC version in multitudes of designs once the car is on the lot and can be properly prototyped.
Fiberglass molds are a lot easier to change then a injected plastic mold. |

I had initially heard that the entire outside body was CF, but it seems that was wrong (too good to be true anyway). The Chevy website specifically says the hood and roof are CF, so presumably the rest of the car is something else. I think i read the vents are CF as well. They are also using real CF for the interior trim, anything that looks carbon fiber IS carbon fiber, there is no carbon-look material anywhere in the car.

The old ones maybe, new ones (as stated) don't. It's not the fact that it's made out of fiberglass either, it's the price for such a crappy material. I could see maybe $1k for that, which is still loads more expensive than your avg ebay ricer bumper, but not a penny more. They basically already had the mold (the current rear end) and just had to adapt it. If it was CF, 2800 is fine...

No handle to open doors on the inside. Thumb button as you put your hand on the door. Grab handle, push button with thumb, push door open. Not sure how I feel about that. What happens if the battery dies? I do like the push-button start, but that's not "new". It's just different from the last Corvette I've driven (C5). I like the new seats. Much better bolstering. Driver's seat and surroundings remind me of a cockpit. I think the height of the center tunnel for the drive shaft has a lot to do with it, but it gives me a warm, fuzzy, happy feeling.

There's a manual release handle for the door from the inside as well down on the floorboard where most trunk release handles would be.

I think the point is you shouldn't need a manual to get out of a car. Creating inconvenience while adding nothing is stupid design.

Agreed. You aren't saving any weight by adding a switch AND still maintaining a manual release. IMO a well shaped door handle has a better appearance than a ****ing button in the middle of the door that detracts from the otherwise clean and smooth appearance.

There isn't a button on the door there's a cutout at the edge of the door that pops it.

Wonderful. More crap in a car that's waiting to go wrong. My cousin had that kind of fun when his C6 crapped out on him in that manner. Probably part of the reason he traded it in (though he'll never want to admit it).

If you don't like gimickie crap, or want to at least minimize it, buy a lotus. I imagine MOST people that buy these cars enjoy the gimmickie crap because it's "cool" "futuristic" "other buzz word".
Screw it, I'm building my own car from the ground up, with no R&D money other than what i have in the change jar on my desk in my home office. crank windows, manual locks, no AC, no TC, no TPMS, none of that. |

I know there is a cutout on the exterior. There is a little pressure switch in there like you commonly find for a trunk/hatch release. That is all fine and wonderful. I was complaining about the little button on the interior door handle. It seems well placed for where your thumb will be when your hand is on the door handle to push it open, but it's still a button in the middle of an otherwise smooth, flowing surface.
