Default Getting ready to sell the STi, any dealer recommendations for replacement Subaru?

Well, the time has come to part ways with my 08 STi. Even though I just completed a full build on it over the summer, I need something more practical considering the amount of activities I do outdoors. This car limits me as to where I can go (basically no offroad), and on top of that it gets driven maybe 100 miles per week, if that. Anyways, I will try and sell it private party, and I am pretty much completely opposed to parting it out. Don't have the time.

My biggest question, and I think I already know the answer, is which dealer should I go to pick up a new 2013 XV Crosstrek Limited? I'm talking in terms of customer service, pricing, and possibly for trade in value? My car is heavily...heavily modified, and I know dealers could give two craps about that.

...I have heard nothing but good feedback about Subaru Superstore, even though they are an hour away from me. I refuse to go to Power Subaru, they have failed me in the past.

What's everyone else's opinions and past experiences with valley Subaru dealers?

Thanks in advance,
Zach

I have a Coolingmist CGMS that was installed, but the gauge randomly got weird on me, so I removed the guage, but all of the wires and methanol lines/pump are still installed. I don't know what is wrong with the gauge, but I called Coolingmist and he said it can still work if wired a certain way. I no longer run meth injection so I haven't cared to fix it.

Dyno: (says DOM3 on it, but its really a 2.5)...Chart shows E85 vs. 91 maps.

I highly recommend selling it private seller. But if you decide to trade it in, have your paperwork saying the car is good to go (compression/leakdown, receipts, most importantly a receipt for the tune and the current mods) and make sure it's in good condition as far as all the basics (CD player, no major body damage, matching tires, no check engine lights, no super flamboyant mods).

If you do decide to trade it in I would go through Subaru Superstore. I know we paid a little more there than we might have paid elsewhere but to be honest the buying experience was excellent. There was no pressure to buy, they gave us a fair deal on the trade and didn't come at us with some insultingly low number, and when we picked up the car the dealer took his time and test drove it with me and communicated with me even on his day off about the financing. Also just the friendly atmosphere and their patience really kept us happy about them, it was the best dealership we've been to by far. PM me if you want to know the guy I was dealing with.

Honestly, they will not resell a modified car at the OEM dealer level. Not at that modification level with the emission controls removed and all. What they will do is call up the auction house or consult the latest data sheets and see how much that car is worth as a 2008 STi. It will go to auction, I can almost assure you of that. The condition of it will play little to no role in the value they assess it at. The main number will come from "what does a 2008 STi bring at auction".

So yes, private party is your best bet. If they happen to give you a good trade in on it, check those numbers well because I promise they will take it back from you somewhere else in the financing deal.

I know private party will be my best bet. I'm in no rush, or need for that matter, to sell it. Just would be nice to have the new car for the winter season. And cars modified this high, can take ages to sell. I don't even know what in the world to price it at, lol.

Oh, I will not be financing through them.

I would refrain from going to Camelback Subaru if you are trading in... They won't give you anything close to its value.

I would recommend buying off of Peoria Subaru. Trevor is the sales manager and we purchased all of our Subarus (except my first car/subie which was private party) off of him. He used to work at Camelback and we purchased two cars there when he worked for that dealership. When he opened up with Peoria Subaru my parents purchased two more from him there. I asked my mom if she would recommend going to Trevor to buy a Subaru and she said she would. She even said to me that he didn't try selling us stuff we didn't need.

Just like any dealership, you probably won't get the trade in value you want because of everything you have done to it. It slims down the chance of them selling it fast.

In the past, I didn't like the maintenance service I got there when I had my '99 legacy. From what I understand is that the service manager has changed since I last went there with my old car. My parents and brother get their service done there and they don't have a problem with it. I get mine done at Camelback because I get free synthetic oil changes for life.

Hope this helps and good luck with the new purchase!

You're experience there is interesting... I swung by there last night at 6pm on my way home from work and literally parked right up front, walked up the the XV Crosstrek outside their front door (which was locked ) and did several walk arounds on it, and peeked in the windows. I was there for almost three minutes and not a single person approached me...so I left. I didn't exactly mind that no one approached me last night since I didn't exactly want to be bothered, but I did want to sit inside the vehicle. Maybe I'll give them a second chance.

If you don't mind the drive, Trent at Tucson Subaru was pretty fair with my STI and has been great to work with.

I know its a drive, but I recommend Superstore in Chandler too. I bought my WRX from Morgan who I communicated with almost exclusively via email and phone. The people there will work with you and I didn't pay anything outrageous for the car. (FWIW, I can't remember which Valley dealer does this - not Superstore - but look carefully at the small print on their online and newspaper ads. There's something about an extra $800 fee on all their cars.)

I didn't trade anything in either because I know Id get more through a private seller. In your case, it would be a shame to see such a nice car pawned off to a dealer who could care a less. I'm sure you can find the right private buyer who would appreciate the work you put into it.

Tucson is a bit much of a drive from Anthem, lol.

Yeah, I know private sale is the way to go, but a car like this could sell in 5 days or 5 months, lol. And dealing with bs craigslist people for that long is not up my alley, haha. I would love for it to be pawned off to another enthusiast on this forum, and would certainly hate to see the dealer take it in for it to just go to crap after knowing the amount of time and money invested into it. But sometimes demodding the easy stuff and trading it in is too quick and easy to turn it down, ya know? Who knows, maybe they'll give me a good trade in value. I've got receipts for all work performed on it since I've owned it.

I have set aside time this Saturday to drive down to Subaru Superstore and give the XV Limited a test drive. Maybe I'll even test drive a Forester too, who knows.

If you like the car so much, just keep it and buy a first gen forester for off-road and camping. That's what I do. They are cheap and will run forever for about $1500-3500.

Why get a new car and assume more debt load?

You might as well throw it up at a descent price on clist im sure the gene pool can't be too hard to deal with. Just keep it and put a winter susspesion set up on it. I havent had any problems getting around in the subie, ive got s techs but not super low. been to bear canyon lake twice , four peaks a ways in twice and a couple trips to queen valley far back in there.

That's the thing of it...I have had my fun with the car and am not opposed to moving on and getting something more versatile (and new). I hardly drive it, there's no real sense to me in keeping something that doesn't get used. I already have a beater that I could, if I really wanted to, take off road...but wouldn't give me anything near the satisfaction/versatility of having a crossover. Yes, I could sell it for an older forester and keep the STi, but I commute 220 miles/day for work...and the 34mpg it gives me is satisfying.

I guess at the end of the day when push comes to shove...I'm ready to move on and let someone else enjoy my project. I owe far less on it than what it would sell for, and I already checked into insurance rates, which would decrease attractively. Not to mention after a down payment, I would be close to, if not at the same monthly payment as I am now. So more debt load is not in question.

220 miles a day commuting? I hope they are paying you well because you're giving up at least 3.5 hours of your time in driving. That's a 30.5% hourly pay decrease (!!!) assuming your work day is 8 hours long. Have you considered moving?

But yeah, highly modified cars are a pain in the ass and lose their appeal quickly. Sometimes I long for a stage two WRX/STi again.

I got my '11 WRX from Subaru Superstore and it was a pretty good experience. No pressure, as many test drives as I wanted, and they were patient with me (I was moving pretty slow, due to car accident the previous month). My husband works for US Airways, and they have a corporate discount program with Subaru, so we got it for straight invoice. I think. Memory is fuzzy. We worked with Lawrence, who I believe moved up to Camelback. I still go to Subaru Superstore for my maintenance (the included stuff, plus I'm not handy enough yet to do anything on my own, more's the pity), and they treat me well.

The pay is extremely well, and my daily per diem is double my daily commuting expenses. The company I work for currently has a 30+ million dollar contract out here in Gila Bend through March constructing the new Solar Power Plant being built here. No sense in moving, since our contract here expires soon.

They can be a pain in the ass, but this thing is finally dialed it and the kinks have all been worked out. A build comes to a certain point where you realize, "Do I really want to keep dumping money into this evil money pit?" And you're quick to answer no, and you're ready to move on to more important things in life, especially those which are a much better investment.

Glad to hear about another positive experience from this location.

Sounds like I have found the dealership to go to after hearing so many positive stories about Subaru Superstore. Let's hope I receive the same treatment when I go there. The biggest thing I don't want to hear is the insulting offer for my trade in, which I am more than ready to hear.

If you are going to see what they will give you for the sti, I am pretty sure it will be a very low offer, as anyone i talked too that looked at trading in a modded car there got some really crazy low trade offers, just so you know

Yeah, I'll be sure to take a Xanax before I go

I got a good trade in offer several years back when I traded in my modded GTO. Never hurts to find out what the dealer would pay. I'm not expecting much from it, but if anything, it will at least give me a basis as to what I could expect to sell it for...right? And on the other hand, maybe it will somehow convince me to part it out, which I know would probably fetch me the most money back in return, but is the absolute last thing I want to do.

Fair enough. It's good they are covering your expenses.

That last paragraph makes you sound like a defeated man.

I'm just teasing of course. What you say makes sense. Everyone has different priorities.

I've got a retarded amount of time and money into my car. And it means too much for me to ever sell it, I think. I'll be pushing it out to Goodguy's car show in another 25 years.

American muscle cars are seen as a more valuable commodity than our little "ricers" unfortunately, and that's just the way it is.

Yeah no one really comes out at Peoria. I think it's because they don't want people to feel uncomfortable. I find it annoying when salesmen come out to bother me lol, but they have to make a dollar some how. I have been to other Subaru dealerships and they always come out. If you go in and ask I'm sure they would be glad to help.

I would also recommend Peoria Subaru. I've taken my car there for repairs recently and every single time I love the customer service. They always make you feel welcomed and are never pushy even their sales personnel are very pleasant to work with.
The one dealership I would not recommend however is Camelback Subaru. My previous 07 2.5i was towed there for service and got rear ended at the dealership. But they did not pay for the repairs because they said that since the car was parked on the side of the street and not inside their parking lot they weren't responsible for any of the damages that occurred -.-
