Default Mufflers - Borla or Magnaflow

So I found a great custom exhaust shop and have narrowed my choices down to three models:

Borla #40357

Magnaflow #14325

Magnaflow #14225

I'd also like to get an oval tip to fill out the bumper cutout. The two Borla tips are:
#20153: 2.5"H x 3.5"W x 4"L
#20155: 3.5"H x 4.25"W x 5"L

The two Magnaflow tips are:
#35159: 3"H x 4"W x 7.25"L
#35158: 3.5"H x 4.5"W x 7"L

I'm also still trying to decide whether to add a resonator or not as well.

Help me decide!!

Thanks,
Bill

Any thing specific you don't like about Magnaflow?

I concur. I was asking the same questions awhile back, and everyone complains about how the magnaflow are either really noisy and obtrusive or just sound plain bad. I'd go with the borla myself.

Even with a resonator? Everyone seems to like the Turbo XS for the WRX and it uses a Magnaflow muffler??

I'll stick up for Magnaflow.

I'm not sure which muffler and tip is on it, but I have the 2.5" catback from FAT and it has a Magnaflow muffler on it. I've never heard a boxer sound better, IMHO.

My exhaust is a little louder than most people probably like, but I don't have a resonator...so get one of those

Any reason why you're getting an offset inlet/outlet muffler instead of a straight-through design? And I also concour that you should get a resonator put in the midpipe. It helps with cabin noise a lot.

Slack,

I'm getting a center/offset because that's what the stocker is now. The bend in the Borla's not bad at all, you can pretty much see straight through. I'm not sure about the Magnaflow though.

I had a Magnaflow cat back on my Civic and it sounded alright but the fitment SUCKED really bad. It always rattled off the bottom of the car. Tons of 2001+ Civic owners had the same problem and Magnaflow would do nothing to help fix it. I ended up selling it and going back to a stock mid pipe and HKS rear section. The HKS sounded so much better and fit like a glove. After that fiasco Magnaflow left a bad taste in my mouth so I won't go back to using their products.

bobby,

That sounds to me like bad install work. Some places I've talked to put hangers in locations where they see fit. The place I'm leaning towards letting do the work uses the stock locations to minimize any problems.

Well, it was a cat back so all of the hangers were on the pipe already. They also sent the cheap-o exhaust clamps with the kit. I tried everything to get it to fit better bu it just did not fit. Like I said, there were tons of us with the same problem on www.7thgencivic.com and I think most of us got it right from Magnflows group buy they did.

Got the Borla Catback on my 98 L and it sounds very nice. makes th4e subaru rumble more pronounced but is still quite enough to have a nice conversation at 60 MPH

the oval magnaflows don't sound too bad, but the N1 style canister magnaflows are really farty.

neither of these sound as nice as a stromung, scooby sport, or prodrive. i'd even take a used greddy/apex'i over these, they just plain sound better.
