Which dimension of the LSX does not fit with an AWD driveline? It has been a battle trying to find actual dimensions of both engines with auxiliaries bolted on. Kennedy engineering makes an adaptor that has been used in old Porsche conversions.

Although this is not my thread, I'm pretty sure the front axles would be pushed too far back from the front hubs due to the added length of the v8 over the flat 4. A quick measurement of block depths with timing assembly attached PLUS the adapter plate would net the rough distance the Subaru trans would have to move back. If viewing from the bottom of the car (car in the air) the front axles on a stock Impreza go straight out to the hubs. Now imagine the transmission is pushed another 10" back and the front axle would then have about a 36-42 degree angle to meet with the hub. I would guess the exaggerated angle would not be good for the setup for articulation. I'm not a drive line expert, but that is my thought/bet/$0.02.

After thought: the transmission tunnel would need to be redone since things are very tight to start with (6MT especially), including the entire lower firewall. The heater core lies directly behind the firewall on top of the tunnel so it would not fit again.

Thanks for clearing it up for everyone... yea there is no extra room to move the ls engine around... its very tight... have to take in consideration of the steering rack, transmission placement so the shifter will work, and then height of the engine, and clearance of the oil pan... also with the clutch master cylinder mounted on the opposite side of the brake master cylinder, the clearance between the head and the clutch master cylinder also comes into play... theres been nothing easy on this build. My main thing is keeping my steering geometry right. I want a good driving car.

Yoar doing it wrong,

Keep the transmission / axles where they are and push everything forward.

Handling would suck, cooling it would be a PITA, but it would work

yea, just cut the core support out and take the front bumper off, move the radiator somewhere, yea it would work great...haha

lol please no more awd crap... if someone wants it, spend the money and do it yourself, then you will find out.

I agree. This is the same reason that Audi went through such efforts to shorten their 4.2L V8 in the B6 S4. It is said to be 10" shorter than an LSX. They were able to do this by moving the timing components to the back of the engine and going with siamese bores. You could get this to fit in a Subaru with AWD I bet but there would be little point in doing so of course.

Would he be willing to make more? I am putting in a 6.0L with a T56 in my Legacy and I dropped the rack about an inch and have been looking for something like this

Awesome project by the way. I love seeing other Subaru LSx projects especially since it gives me good ideas for my fabrication.

But this made my day when he sent me a pic of it machined out. Now if my Dom tubing would come in so i can fab the control arms!!!

Also the heims im using are Heat Treated 4130 Chromoly Heims with Kevlar liners, very tight tolerance and very strong, radial static rating of 18,000 lbs or so. Way more than the factory ball joint would ever hold up to.

Wont work with factory control arms and also it doesn't correct the steering geometry.

control arms are 1.25" OD and .250 wall. Really overkill but nice to work with. There are three weld passes on the piece. 1 Fusion, then 2 filler passes. fully welded up.
