would have sum more but i cant find my digital camera... also was hoping to have a rolling chassis this week, but got down to my last control arm and i noticed i had a left hand thread heim.. instead of a right hand. So gotta wait for the correct heim to come in. But everything is coming along slowly.. hang in there, i'll get some good pics up.

Which dimension of the LSX does not fit with an AWD driveline? It has been a battle trying to find actual dimensions of both engines with auxiliaries bolted on. Kennedy engineering makes an adaptor that has been used in old Porsche conversions.

After thought: the transmission tunnel would need to be redone since things are very tight to start with (6MT especially), including the entire lower firewall. The heater core lies directly behind the firewall on top of the tunnel so it would not fit again. Thanks for clearing it up for everyone... yea there is no extra room to move the ls engine around... its very tight... have to take in consideration of the steering rack, transmission placement so the shifter will work, and then height of the engine, and clearance of the oil pan... also with the clutch master cylinder mounted on the opposite side of the brake master cylinder, the clearance between the head and the clutch master cylinder also comes into play... theres been nothing easy on this build. My main thing is keeping my steering geometry right. I want a good driving car. |

Keep the transmission / axles where they are and push everything forward. Handling would suck, cooling it would be a PITA, but it would work |

I agree. This is the same reason that Audi went through such efforts to shorten their 4.2L V8 in the B6 S4. It is said to be 10" shorter than an LSX. They were able to do this by moving the timing components to the back of the engine and going with siamese bores. You could get this to fit in a Subaru with AWD I bet but there would be little point in doing so of course.

Would he be willing to make more? I am putting in a 6.0L with a T56 in my Legacy and I dropped the rack about an inch and have been looking for something like this
Awesome project by the way. I love seeing other Subaru LSx projects especially since it gives me good ideas for my fabrication. Quote:

control arms are 1.25" OD and .250 wall. Really overkill but nice to work with. There are three weld passes on the piece. 1 Fusion, then 2 filler passes. fully welded up. Last edited by TyConway; 01-26-2013 at 01:52 PM. |
