Unless they resurrect the Plymouth brand for this, it's sort of like calling it a Chevrolet Firebird.

^^^The original Dart was basically the same, based on by some accounts, as the Plymouth Valiant. So in a circular kind of way it works. Still be a bit weird though. I wonder if it will be converted to RWD to counter the Code 130/140 GM has showed recently?

^^ Very much the same under the sheetmetal, having worked on a few.
Younger buyers don't have much connection to Plymouth either unless they had a Breeze, Neon or hand-me-down K-car. |

I could care less about the name or what Chrysler variant it once belonged to, to me the important part is a domestic car company downsizing a next gen vehicle. Its a step in the right direction.

When one nostalgic name is used up resurrect another. Heaven forbid you do anything different and innovative, then again, we are talking about Dodge here.

Smaller lighter platform but still having a V8
Sounds like a good idea whatever name they feel like putting on the fender. |

It would be difficult for the next Challenger to be heavier.

But, there were also talks about making SRT it's own brand, (http://www.insideline.com/dodge/2013...odge-name.html) and there's been some speculation that the Barracuda could also be launched under that brand. Which seems to make sense... why have a whole separate brand for just the Viper? |

Heh..
Why won't they let the famous icon rest in peace? Of course chrysler has to resurrect it from the dead and slap some silly SRT badge on an overweight chassis which will end up costing way more than their competitors. |

Patronage of the most limp waisted. Middle agers of bread, butter and just for men touch of grey demographics.

All companies like to reuse names. They spend money making the name recognizable and I have no problem with them reusing the name. If they do it poorly they dilute the name and it loses value for them. Harley did that for awhile. Eventually they will either need to make something memorable or the name will once again have no value. I understand how this might make someone sad who has good memories of previous names, but as a business practice I don't find fault.

I dont really like the idea of resurrecting a classic then replacing it with another just seems like an odd thing to do. But then again so is having a line up of cars being all resurrected cars from the past. What do we got the avenger, the charger, the dart and the challenger which will be replaced by the barracuda. I think its time to leave the past where it belongs in the past and move on.

I can't wait until 40 years from now when Dodge comes out with a cutting edge new model using the resurrected name "Grand Caravan"

40 years from now Acura will resurrect the Legend and Integra, while Toyota will have a Supra, and Honda will bring back the Prelude. And we'll all be the old suckers waiting in line to overpay for them
