Default Stupid n00b wattage question

I'm looking to install a set of Infinity Reference 5 1/4" components. I'm looking for a 2 channel amp to power them.

A local guy has an amp for sale. The amp is rated at 2x150. I think the speakers are rated at 75 rms and 275 peak.

Will this amp be too much power for the speakers?

Depends on the brand of the amp. The ratings of all amps are very questionable. The cheaper brands boast higher numbers than they are actually capable of producing in a real world situation. So what is the model of amp and what is he asking for it?

It is an Audiobahn amp. He's asking $100 for it.

Hey egg, why even bother checking on the model number? I assume you agree that Audiobahn is the biggest pile of crap in car audio.

Honestly I wouldn't give him $20 for it. For $100 you can do way better.

or for $125

hah, true
I've heard their amps are pretty solid though, never tried them out personally

he might be able to buy it and then pawn it off on ebay and make some money too, depends on the model though (and of course how flashy it is)

Although they are not the best amps in the world, they are solid and perform well...you won't win any competitions with it, but it'll give you clean power...

I think you guys will probably agree that the 2x150 for the amp is "generous" in terms of output. Given that the speakers are Infinity Ref., their rating is probably also understated to avoid people putting too much power through them.

This being said, the amp should not over power the speakers...agreed?

Agreed on that point. Of course I still maintain that he could do better for the money. I think there is a reason the guy is trying to sell it to begin with

I'm actually the one selling it...

The only reason I am selling it is because I don't have a use for it anymore. It was from a system in my previous car: I ran 2 12" Kove subs off of it and it did wonders. Now that I have my rex, I don't need this amp with the system I am running...

Glad to help. I am sure you will be very happy with that amp, just make sure to not skimp too much on the wiring for it; I would recommend www.knukonceptz.com because it is good quality for a good price.

Sorry I killed a sale for you I am sure you can find someone else to buy it though. Just try posting it in the private FS section.
