Default Red vinyl for taillights - where to buy?

I've got an 09 WRX, and was on the fence for a while about whether or not I like the tail light colors. I just finally came down on the "not thrilled about them" side.

I think what's throwing the look off for me is that cheapo looking reflector on the side, so I want to cover that "outer" light (brake and turn) in red but want to leave the "inner light" (on the hatch, backup) as is.

My question is, is there a local source for a "quality" red vinyl overlay to put on there? To be completely honest I hate waiting for stuff to be mailed or shipped to me once I decide on buying an inexpensive something

Thanks for the responses... are all of these links online-order places? Any ideas on places to find this locally?

I've had some red overlays sitting at home for weeks. I'm waiting for a magic genie to install them on my '09 some night while I'm sleeping.

I think there's basically two kinds that people use - Oracal 8300 and Lamin-x. The Bluebatmobile kit uses Oracal 8300. I believe the Harmanmotive kit uses Lamin-x - can't confirm but I've felt it and it's the same thick stuff like Lamin-x.

Before looking into it more, I had already ordered a Bluebatmobile kit. I later learned you can just buy rolls of the Oracal 8300 film for about 1/10 of the cost that Bluebatmobile charges. Although, sheets of Lamin-x weren't much cheaper than the Harmanmotive kit. Also, I think it's actually better to work with an entire sheet than the pre-cut kits, since you'll have excess material to wrap it over the edges if you remove your lights for the install. I found it easy to cut out the shapes, so you can really stretch the material if you need to and don't have to conform to any preset alignment - just cover the entire light and then cut out any shapes you need.

Anyways, I liked the idea that the Lamin-x is thicker and read it was easier to install, so I ordered some. The two inner lights were easy to install, since they're flat. The two outer lights are a different matter - not only are they curved, but there's a bump right in middle. I ended up with some small bubbles in mine . I'm going to wait until the summer and see if they go away from the heat, otherwise I plan to redo them.

lupohki nailed it!

i ordered from extremevinyls.com (local to so. cal) and installed myself at first and FAILED bad on the outer portion of the tails. the hatch part was a breeze. i also did the third brake light. i ended up having the guy i bought the vinyl from install for me after my screw up. total cost was $60 for install and vinyl. i cut out the centers on my own with an xacto knife. adding the red tail light overlays makes a HUGE difference for the better imho.

Thanks all!

I guess I will have to order it online then..

Figures the piece of the light I want to do is the harder of the two lol

Also, I was looking into taking the light assemblies off the car to make it easier... other than those two 10mm bolts, what is holding them on in the forward-most part?? I didn't want to pull and break something..

Guess I'll have to give it another shot ... it really didn't feel like it wanted to come out. Needs some convincing I guess!

with the outer parts of the lights being the p.i.t.a, i wouldn't worry about removing the portion of the lights that are on the hatch. the flatness makes it easy to do, just take your time and be meticulous when trimming the vinyl.

I'm not necessarily planning on doing the inner/hatch lights at the moment anyway, going to have to see how it looks with the outer red. The only part that's bothering me the most is the contrast of the plastic looking red reflector on the chrome/white looking light housing. If it's all red, I think it will look better.

It's not hard to remove the inside lights. Besides the 2 exposed nuts, there's one more that requires you to pull out the 4 trim pieces on the inside of the hatch. With the hatch open, pull the horizontal piece by the hinge off, then the sides, then the other horizontal piece that's covering the hole that'll give you access to the single nut that's holding the light in. You'll see that you have to go in this order as they overlay each other.
