Default Mid-hudson Subaru=Fail. Any reputable shops?

So I bought my 2009 wrx a couple months ago from a dealership in NJ, I knew buying a used wrx is a risk to begin with but it's still under warranty so I went for it. Anyway after about two weeks of owning it I started having transmission problems so I brought it to mid Hudson Subaru in wappingers falls/fishkill ny and had the transmission replaced with a used transmission with less miles because I was told that Subaru does not supply new transmissions for the wrx/sti as long as the case is good. Well a couple weeks after that I noticed the transmission was leaking so I brought it back and they told me it was just over filled and leaking out of the filler cap (sounds like bs to me but they didn't charge me so I figured what the hell). Anyway it was still leaking so a few days later I brought it back and this time they tell me they found the leak coming from the shifter something (sorry I forgot what he said exactly) BUT they didn't know what parts were needed to fix it so they'll call me when they figure it out yet their supposed to be certified Subaru mechanics..... I was amazed that they would tell me, their customer, that they don't know how to fix it and they'd call me. So after two visits and still no answer for a transmission leak I am definitely not going back to that dealer. I made an appointment for colonial Subaru in Kingston ny so hopefully they will know what their doing an have an answer for me. So does anybody know if colonial Subaru is a good shop? Or know of any other local shops that are trustworthy, reliable, etc?

Sorry for the long story by the way..

I also forgot to mention that it has been almost three days since I brought it to mid Hudson and they still have not even called me... I also am a nice guy and didn't disrespect them what so ever so i dont think they are mistreating me out of spite. I truly believe that they just are not a good shop...

First off you need to start documenting the work they perform on your car and keep records.

Call them back and ask.

Three days is much too long to figure out a problem. They should at least be providing an update. Being a "nice guy" won't help. Call them and get an update.

Well they haven't been charging me for the visits so that's why I think they haven't been documenting it, but yea your right. I still don't even trust them with it. If they don't know how to fix it then I don't need them practicing it on my car. I would rather pay someone else the money who will be able to provide a solution

i get my car worked on their and my fiancee's car. Ive never had a problem if you bought it elsewhere the problem might be that they are trying to figure how best to fix a car thats a turbo without being held liable for the previous owners mishap.

Talk to rob bosch directly hes the service manager and if its stiill bad talk to the owner Peter. Hes very chill and really takes care of his customers whether or not you bought the car there.

Good Luck!

Yea I've talked to rob, they are all very nice. I was just upset and very confused that at a subaru dealership i was told they didn't know how to fix the shifter seal, but since this post they have called me and followed up so hopefully it will be fixed and taken care of soon. It would still be nice to know a local shop to save some money and feel good about who's working on my car lol

Where's it leaking from? the bell housing or the tail shaft? Where did they get the trans from? If it has warranty it should've never been replaced... It should've been split and checked for internal damage.

They told me its leaking from the shifter seal. And it was cracked open and they found a lot of problems so the car dealer that I bought it from decided to just get a used tranny with less miles to save money on his end. With that he also gave me a 3 year/40k mile ProGuard warranty so I agreed. But after having it replaced I then noticed the leak. I was told it could cost up to $750 to fix, but that should be covered under the ProGuard warranty. Ill find out this week when they file the claim. And yea I've heard of an efi in Danbury ct I think. I've just never really looked into it since that's pretty far away lol

A majority of the oil was towards the back of the transmission (perhaps directly under center console) if that answers your question about the bell housing or tail shaft. All they told me though was shifter seal

I'm going to agree with evoeater8 efi is hands down the best place to bring subies they r the real Subaru specialist! Midhudson is a joke and colonial is even worse they sold a used Rex to my friend and let it leave the lot with a blown out wheel bearing and 4 different tires and the tread depths were all different that's great for ur awd and then they would even fix it. Any one can go to sears and buy tools but that doesn't make u a mechanic. You know what I mean! I say go to feders for parts and efi for the experts

@scoobie wagon and @evoeater8 yea I'm definately gonna have to take your advice. I have actually been emailing the owner of mid hudson subaru and long story short, a mechanic from their shop showed them this post and after talking to them they have decided it would be best if I take my business else where and they are returning the parts they ordered for my car. Also @evoeater, I knew your name sounded familiar and I just realized I saw it on Instagram on Fooses picture awhile ago. Me and him are neighbors but anyway I would hate to go all the way to Connecticut for a shifter seal so maybe ill try feders in middletown

haha well this is Foose and yeah i would def go to efi. i have had good luck / bad luck with feders but it depends who works on ur car. so if u go there i would ask for there best guy and tell them u had issues with other dealers! But the guy in parts over at feders is awesome lol!!! but if you ever have any questions let me know i only am right down the road from u and if i dont have the answer i know alot of subie people between our club and the other people we hang out with!
