AFAIK, ECUFLash requires openport to read and write, and vagcom cables are only suitable for logging via RomRaider.

This is my buddy, we worked on it togther, We couldn't get it to work.
I found some answers here so we can tackle it after work. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110768 It seems very misinterpreted that VagCom can't do reflashes. It can and for a GREAT PRICE. Could the green test wire be a problem? I also think he may not have the right FTDI driver installed, I could be wrong tho. So BUMP for more info |

It CAN reflash. I've got a tutorial almost done. You need to use ECUFlash 1.29a.

That's not necessarily true, I read, flash, and log with a generic VagCom cable, one that looks very similar (cheap) like the one the OP posted in the pic. To the OP, I had a tough time getting mine to work, it took a little while, but it worked. What it sounds like to me is a problem with your computer and it's connection to the cable itself. Make sure you have the correct drivers installed (FTDI), and that your cable is configured to the correct COM port. When it's hooked up, it should show up on your Device Manager as a USB Serial cable I believe (on Windows XP anyway). Another member asked a question about a low/high voltage problem. That ususally (in my experience) a problem when writing or test writing only. You can ususally read and not get a low/high voltage error. You may need the jumper block for this, or do as I did and soldered a wiring harness to jump 12V directly to the flash block. OP, if you need any help LMK, I know how much of a pain in the arse I had getting it to work. If you need the files for the drivers, I have them, just shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll email them to you. If later down the road you need pictures with how to make/hook up a 12V jumper, I can help you out with that as well. Hope this helps! |

I wanted to finish this up, but it seems like you could really use the help.
I would uninstall everything and start from scratch, then click the link below. It's the exact step by step instructions I used. Flashing/Datalogging your WRX for $30.00 |

Make double-sure you installed the correct driver for the cable. I installed the wrong one first and I could not get it to work either.

wow nothing is working i cant even use romraider logger say cant send ECU init. check cable or connection. ecuexplorer pops up some ecuflash thing and then wants me to save a file when nothing has been done yet and then says cant connect to port. i lowered the byte rate to 4800 like ive read. the port pops up. im lost.

It definately sounds like it's your computer itself. A few suggestions:
1. Make sure you have the correct drivers installed. I uploaded them not too long ago for another member, here's the link if you need it: http://rapidshare.com/files/22988969...ified.zip.html 2. Make sure you have all the RomRaider and EcuFlash definitions downloaded and installed. You also need another set of definitions just for EcuFlash's logger. That makes 3 different definition sets you need to get it running. 3. Make sure you aren't running EcuFlash and RomRaider at the same time. Meaning only have 1 of those programs open on the desktop at a time. AFAIK running both could block the ports or something. Hope this helps! |

The other thing to test quickly is to only open Learning View and try connecting. If you can't get Learning View to connect you definitely won't be able to datalog or flash.

What's the error say? Voltage too high/low? Or does the program just crash on you?
