Wow what do you say to that! Oh by the way I Took responsibility for your car with your permission, But I also assumed the granting power to give someone else permission to drive your car! I wouls emidiatly contact the insurance company of the 3rd party so that claim does not follow up on me! WoW! |

Dude, maybe I'm just an a-hole, but there are charges that need to be filed. Unless your friend is blowing smoke up your ass. Your car was technically stolen from you. This situation is complete BS. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Shouldn't his insurance cover it? Insurance covers you when you have a rental; why would this be different? |

I feel dirty every time I got into my car knowing some stranger is driving my car when I am not around (like getting tires @ discount, getting an alignment, changing oil @ stealership). I couldn't imagine what I feel to know someone actually push it that hard and cause the damage. He might be as well be doing 6k clutch dump lauching the **** out of the car as far as I am concern. I'll make him buy the car. and get the 07 limited :P

Call the police, report it as theft. If you do not do this, you could end shouldering the full financial burden of this accident. The car is insured under your name, and just contacting the other guys insurance company will do nothing for you, as they have no obligation to insure him in another persons car.

Make sure your friend is not lying to you about "his friend" took the keys w/o permission and file a police report on this accident before its too late. Don't give ANY sympathy over this, it's your car and nothing should come out of your own pocket. So take the police report and let the insurance company pay for all the expenses (fix the damages, car rental..etc)
Sorry to hear that man |

I was just recently in the same boat, with letting a friend barrow my car. She, yes it was a girl, im an idiot, but I digress... She took great car of it and I was extremely lucky nothing happened. I was soo paranoid.
I guess my primitive, punch to her face got through to her. Sorry that this happened. I hope that whoever wrecked your car gets stuck with the bill and your car is returned to its previous glory. |

That sucks. I doubt i'd ever let anyone drive my car. Other than people at the dealership and my fiance. No one else has driven it.

You guys are looking at this completely out of perspective. Its a CAR for Christ's sake. It can be fixed. Its not the end of the world. I'm careful who I let drive my car, but I'm not anal like some of these guys here sound like. I'll let anyone in my immmediate family, some extended family, and any of my good buddies drive it.
Personally, I'd look into what actually happened (i.e. did your friend actually not know the 3rd party took the car out) then talk to the 3rd party guy and your friend and let them know that you will press criminal charges against the guy unless he can and will (more importantly) pay for EVERYTHING and any problems that occur down the road. Chances are that the guy is a decent guy who got tempted and ****ed up. Everybody ****s up every once in a while and when it's your turn to **** up, you'd like the guy who gets the shaft to treat you somewhat decently. It's karma. He's already learned his lesson and as long as he'll cover the financial end of the deal, why **** him over with a criminal record? If the guy seems like a deadbeat, though, I'd press charges and take him to small claims court and sue himi for all you can. Good luck getting fixed and getting back on the road. Danny |
