Hey Rob, long time no hear!
Haha, I post this stuff so people can save money!

Funny you mention the shift knob. I just had a long discussion on my build thread about the knob and the stock radio... I'm sticking stock until I can find something that looks and feels like it belongs there. I've tried COBB, Perrin and WC Lathe knobs and disliked them all. I keep coming back to stock for the feel and the fact that it's not metal. I really want to try to cover it in Alcantara somehow. That and the eBrake handle

well, not exactly...
A+ for effort though!

He's got:

Alcantara - check
Red thread - check
Carbon fiber - check
No exposed metal surface - check
Originality - check

A look that blends well with the interior? - no so much...

Wow. This is absolutely awesome. Looking at the finished product is mind-blowing. It looks impossible to achieve such awesome results from a normal guy, but then breaking it down to 1 piece at a time, it actually looks do-able.

Incredible work.

Yeah, even if there is, JPM is a small company and deserves the business. Even if it was half the price I would still give JPM what I can. Good customer service goes a long way these days.

Thanks for the positive comments!!

It's on my radar to look into see if it's possible to do without a seam. Because it's a round cutout I don't think it'll be possible. A simple seam would make it easier so if I can find a spot that is least noticeable I might try it if I do the headliner this winter.

I haven't done the headliner yet. I'm thinking I'll have more time this winter to tackle that project.
Alcantara "panel" is the most forgiving in terms of stretch. At best I compare it to wrapping paper which isn't that stretchy at all. Without a steamer, it's going nowhere. Even with the steamer you are limited to maybe 10-15mm of stretch.

I made that shifter "knob" for kicks one weekend afternoon due to boredom, and it is probably the worst shifter I've ever used lol. Way too light to be effective, and takes too long to get the hand around for 2-4-R shifts.

i agree with everyone that your interior looks amazing. Ive been thinking of doing this for a long time. Maybe with your inspiring diy attitude I will start and tackle the small things first. What kind of steamer is that?

Really awesome job. But please upgrade your head unit, it look aweful in that interior.

Btw, did it help for the rattle in the cabin?

Hey man, I'd say give it a shot! It was a lot of fun and the results when you're all done speak for themselves. The steamer was a basic garment type found http://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Commercial-High-Quality-Steaming-Affordable/dp/B003DLUFV2/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1346541900&sr=1-1&keywords=ps-250+steamerGood luck!!

Haha, just had a 2-page discussion on my build thread about the radio. I'd love to change it but changing it for looks is one thing. I haven't found a radio that doesn't look like it got ripped out of a ricers civic. The quality of radios these days are terrible. F1 status is gone and Stage 4 units are single din. I'm going to hold out a little longer an wait till these manufactures break away from technology made in 1995.

Otherwise, no rattles so far. I took it for a nice 100 mile drive today with NO issues at. That was worth the cost of the Alcantara itself!

Cheers,

- Jason

Nice to hear, make me want to do it.

I got the same car and the pioneer 930bt is actually good. Oem look, gps abd not too flashy. Of course you have to upgrade speaker and tweeter.

Question with the alacantra. Does it wear when you put your elbow on it while driving? I always sit my left elbow how the plastic near the window.

I've been drawn closer to the Pioneer line-up just for the OEM look and they seem to be getting their act together. The AVIC-Z140BH seems like the one I would choose if I pulled the trigger on something. It won't be exactly what I want but I feel it's the best option if I had to choose something today.

Otherwise I have the same issue with my opposite elbow, I rest my right elbow on the top of the console cover. I've had it wrapped for 10 months now and it still looks brand new! Alcantara is the toughest, easiest to clean, UV protected material out there. If it's good enough for Ferrari, Lambo and Maserati, it's good for my elbows, lol
