Default New Hampshire ?'s

I'm planning on moving to NH in about a year, and I had a few questions. Most of them have been answered by doing a little trolling in your section, but I was wondering if there are any emmisions testing in NH. I'll be relocating my family to the Rochester area for at least two years, and I look forward to meeting the subie guys in the north east while I'm there. Heres a quick snap of my ride. I'm wingless now though.

Any suggestions for people moving to the area?

NH is now doing emissions testing (from what i've been told, wifey lives in portsmouth, and is going to school for automotive, so i can only assume she's current on these things) for all vehicles MY2000 (and newer? i found it odd, but thats what i was told), on top of the testing they'd done previously.

and future-welcome-to-NESIC.

its a great community as long as you at least attempt to act like a mature adult (and going by the family reference, i've assumed you've grown up at least a bit)

new hampshire is pretty laid back. i live just south of rochester and i haven't got hasseled for my exhaust, i have a borla hush, stromung dp, which has a hiflow cat, and race pipe.

as long as you're not an idiot driver and try to call attention to yourself, you shouldn't have any problems. the only thing it looks like is your front pass and driver windows look tinted, and if they are, youll have to take them off, or find an eye doctor to give you a note stating you have eyes that are sensative to the light, bring that to the dmv (i believe) so you can keep them.

Yeah, I'm an old man with a wife and two kids. I won't be tearing the town up any. I'm from a town of about 70,000 in Alaska so I'm really into the small town thing. We are just looking for a change. I'm running a VF22 with no cats, header, blah blah blah. What will I have to do to register my car down there? Maybe I'll just get it registered here for two years right before I come down, but we have really strict emmisions tests in alaska.

That picture was taken at about 1 a.m. we have 24 hour sun in the summer here.

My tinting is only at like 35% I believe thats the lightest you can get. Will that still get me trouble?

Hi i work for a subaru dealer and i have my inspection licence. the only testing we do is an obd2 scan. its not really an emissions test it is more just to check for codes. if your cel is not on the don't worry. we do a visual test of the exhaust though so just be careful where you take it because it is up to the inspectors discretion as to what passes and what fails. This is for all 1996 and newer vehicles. also if your cel is on and you just clear the code before inspection the car will not pass because it will say that all systems are not ready when they plug it in. Hope this helps.

as for the exhaust you may get crap for no cats and the tint can be 30% only on back windows nothing on the fronts.

In NH you cannot have any tint on driver side and passenger side. It's illegal.

However, with a note from eye doctor you can secure yourself a permit to tint 35% all around for three years. I have such note. But I must say that I am yet to be pulled over for tint in seacoast area (pretty much where you will be relocating) and I have it pretty dark:

I don't think cops in the area care about tint. But areas like Nashua,NH and Manchester,NH you won't be able to get by without being pulled over + tickets.

So VERY UN-true. I have had my tint on all my windows (minus the windshield of course), for almost 2 years (not said doctor's note). I have never once been ticketed, pulled, over or harassed for my tint by anyone. But then again, I don't have a loud exhaust nor do I drive around like an a$$hat.

The only time I was asked to change something on my car was when a cop asked me to remove my license plate cover on the back of my car, apparently it was too dark for her to see. She was kind and curtious and asked me while I was parked in a parking lot. She said NOTHING about my tint.

NH may have a law about not having the front two windows tinted, but it is a pretty loose law.

The state is even preparing to get rid of the law, if you search this very website you will find links to court documents showing that the law is in the system now to be updated and no longer restrict the front two windows.

I got pulled over once back in the day when i had the windows in my eclipse tinted. Anyways if you are moving to rochangeles we'll have to meet up sometime i live 1 town away. Emissions is just the obd2 plug in. so if you have the accessport you're fine.

Im running no cats on my 2000 RS and last year when I tried to get in inspected, they rolled it in, and rolled it back out right after seeing the cat delete pipe. I had to throw the stock cat pipe on for inspection. Also i had to swap out my clear corner lenses for stock because there was no orange marker. Kind of a pain but I think the sound is soooo much better without the cat.

If I disable my check engine light with my utec will I be good? I do have a cat I can swap into my exhaust if I need to for inspection. Where is the subaru dealership you work at located? I'm a salesman at the dealership here in fairbanks, and I've been thinking about possibly going that route when I move down there. I also sell honda and toyota at my dealership though so I don't know which one I would sell at if I did.

We had very different experiences I guess. I lived in Nashua for many years, went through three different cars, all tinted cars, FL plates, pulled over all the time. I didn't have ridiculous mods to attract attention. Nor was I driving stupid since I could get deported for violations like that.

My recent car, Subaru, never pulled over on sea coast, got pulled over by Nashua PD few months ago, showed him medical note and DOT approval, and he was not happy. He said I'll be bothered on every corner because there's no way for NH police to put this note in thier computers.

As for NH getting rid of the tint restriction. That is true, however, the house has killed that bill. So this is not happening. There's a certain person in the house who won't allow this to happen. I spoke to Mary Cooney about it, she's the one who was trying to promote this, I will quote her "Vladislav, I'm afraid the tinted glass bill was killed in the House...Rep. Cooney"

You have 60 days to get your car registered in NH along with getting a new NH license. Driving around with AK plates would be interesting..
http://www.newhampshire.com/about-nh/registrations.aspx
http://www.dmv.org/nh-new-hampshire/apply-license.php

The real issue is that if you have a AK plates and license but are being insured in NH, the insurance companies pick up on that at the most unfortunate times, like right after an accident. What they do is up to them, but it's not that big of a deal to change it.

That's a toss up.. Around here the Toyota and Honda dealers get a heck of a lot more traffic through them and more sales verses the Subaru guys.

my last few inspections included a OBD scan + safety check (lights / horn / e-brake / etc). fairly laid back. Although I only had a cat-back. Chances are if you're car safe and legal (really legal), you'll be fine.

I've got friends in rochester. I really thought it was nice there. I'm in to the small town thing.
