I like some of these rule changes, starting to make things a lot more black and white.

I just hope they make sure to follow what happens over the year and not randomly issue penalties like seems to have happened previously. Thats my biggest problem with the rulings they make.

Glad they did this, lapped cars mixed in has hampered quite a bit of racing after restarts.

They should not allow that if that is the case.

I'm not sure how it works, just saying that sometimes it seems like drivers take flipping forever to catch up for no real reason.

Same thing happened in India and Korea over the last couple of seasons. The mad dash to get the tracks ready and all. Yes they could race, but finding grip was a pain in India and Korea didn't really seem to be able to shed water after the rains. I'm glad New Jersey will be a street circuit, should be less prep work IMO. Austin really seems to be turning into a cluster....

This is a little self serving but thought some of you would be interested in it. I did an interview with the Austin Statesman a few days ago. Here is the link:

Who thinks Massa will get canned before season's end (2012)?

I guessing he will make it through 2012 but he will be a tester there after.

Renault confirm Grosjean signing

Romain Grosjean will race alongside Kimi Raikkonen at Renault next season, the French team have announced.

Grosjean replaces Vitaly Petrov who has spent the past two seasons with the team. Petrov and Bruno Senna, who occupied Renault's second race seat for the back end of last season, are now both without drives for next season.

Petrov did himself no favours in his bid to retain his spot by heavily criticising the team in the run up to the Abu Dhabi GP, saying that decisions made on the pit wall and poor pit stops where costing him points.

The decision marks a remarkable return for Grosjean who was discarded by the Enstone outfit at the end of 2009 after half a season in the sport. The 25-year-old responded to his sacking by winning the 2010 Auto GP series and following it up with the GP2 title this year.

"I am thrilled to be one of the team's race drivers in 2012. There's a big grin on my face at the prospect of getting behind the wheel of next year's car, and I feel very privileged to be given this opportunity," said Grosjean.

"To be racing alongside a former World Champion and someone who is hungry and returning to Formula 1 will be a great experience, and I'm sure will help raise my level of performance too.

"I feel that my successful season in GP2 Series has helped me mature a lot, and I am a much more complete driver than I was last time I was competing in this sport. Returning to Enstone as a race driver feels like coming home. I will not disappoint and I wish to thank all the people without whom this return to F1 would not have been possible. Total, which supports me since 2006, and Gravity Sport Management, are first on this list."

The deal is sweetened for Renault by the fact that Total have committed their future to the team.

Renault owner Gerard Lopez believes that Grosjean fits in well with the team's new approach.

"Only last week I reiterated that the team is at the start of a brand new cycle," he said.

"Announcing Romain as our race driver alongside Kimi is great news and will help us achieve our aims of getting back to the very top."

I agree, although when does Alonso's contract end? I could see them bringing in a quick driver to push Alonso, but it could be volatile.

Shame for Petrov. He was growing on me so I hope he ends up somewhere. He at least has a podium which is a lot more than some of the other #2 drivers have.

I'm interested in seeing what Grosjean can do now.

With that much cash I am sure he will get a drive. Maybe Williams?

2 pay drivers? I don't know. Sutil still needs a seat (presumably he's out at FI). STR are potentially sitting put.

I think that's great for Grosjean. Will be interesting to see how he stacks up against Kimi though. The last time he partnered with a world champion it didn't work out so well. Giorgio Pantano also kicked butt in GP2, and look where he ended up. I hope he succeeds though!

Feel bad for Bruno...it would be a great story if he was just a little bit quicker, but clearly isn't as naturally talented as the great one.

I think both deserve a real chance. Half seasons in a car aren't very fair, especially with the lack of testing. I hope Renault is able to keep both drivers for the entire year.

Not sure if you guys brought this up in the 2011 thread, but I just stumbled upon this.

The cars sound like garbage under braking due to the blown diffusers...good thing they'll be gone next year.
