Have talked to just about every service in my area with no luck thus far.

frustrated, but I won't give up.
I just called seeing I have way to much free time at work right now, they said they would need to see it (duh) but it shouldn't be an issue. He said it would just be a weld up the hole and sleeve it situation most likely. This place has been around forever so they still have a few of "those guys".

Keep us posted, I am sure they can handle it.

Jamie,

I wonder is Delta or Heads up! might be able to help, or at least point you in the right direction.

Nobody has the right equipment anymore is what I've been told.
The block is at yet another machine shop, and he's contacting all of HIS sources with no luck.

Might be time to expand the search out of region. It has been 4 weeks of searching already.

Thanks guys for the tips and leads.

Did you ever talk to Brian at Bearing Service? I was just there today and took a walk around the shop and he showed me the machines they would use to deal with that issue, so I would drop it by there sooner rather then later. Ok at least ask the place you took it already if they know about Bearing Service seeing they aren't having luck with their resources. I REALLY want to see this running!!!

The machine shop my dad used (to re-sleeve his straight 8 1946 Packard engine) is in San Diego, CA. I asked him for their info. They were always very affordable too. AND they do top notch aluminum repair, I saw an aluminum Ferrari 388 head that was cracked to hell around a valve seat and port get welded up, re-heat treated and machined back to perfect. The heads were off a historic racing engine.

Out of state? All the local options people mentioned not able to?

Mostly curious seeing the guys I talk to at Bearing Service seemed very sure it wasn't a big deal.

Bearing Service is out of state as well They are in Oregon. I'm in WA

Did not call them as I was put into contact with the current company - aka a one man show - decades of experience - recently retired but takes side jobs.
Also in Portland.

I've put some faith in him based on the glowing recommendations received.

SHOP INFORMATION FOR THE CURIOUS http://www.smallenginemachineworks.com/

O I thought you where in Beaverton for some reason, not sure why. Thought I saw it in a post or something, was why I posted about Bearing Services. Well good glad you got a solid lead you felt comfortable with.

The old timers are the best. Don't worry, it isn't something that can not be fixed. If he has been in the game long enough to retire ill bet he at least knows who can do it if he can not.

FYI Jamie, If those head studs get damaged during shipping, just replace them with some ARP studs.

I think we've found the right guy at this point, but if this does not work out I will definitely contact you!
I've no problems shipping across the border - whatever it takes to get this girl back on the road! thank you so much for taking time to comment and offer.

Just finished reading the thread all the way though (I'll be honest, I skimmed some pages). Incredible project, will be amazing to see it finished but isn't it really the journey that is the sweetest part? I'll be a little sad when she's done too. Amazing work Kostamojen on taking the project as far as you did (BTW, is your name connected to the Star Trek DS9 reference, Kosst Amojan?).

Subie Gal, I'm glad the car is in good hands, it certainly looks like you're taking care of her properly. If you're unable to find a source to work on the engine you might try calling aircraft engine and machine shops at airports. They work with aluminum *a lot* and especially on older products. The average age for general aviation aircraft is something like 1970.
