Australia, Japan, Germany, and the rest of the world gets the 6mt.
I think us and Canada are pretty much the only ones with 5mt's.

I would think it would have to be either cost or regulations related. I am not sure how either would tie in, but these are usually the two denominators involved

Well I can ceetainly say regs arent the problem.
Probably just a bean counter situation. If they bring the 6mt in a couple years, then they can tack on an extra charge, and "update" the model. It really couldnt cost them too much to put a six speed vs a five at the factory. Factor that in with the rest of the world getting this 6mt and its just a shameful bit of marketing strategy. imo |

Also, with this lower gearing, it's easier in stop and go traffic, slow stuff, and have you ever noticed how easy it is just crawling at idle? Thank the 4.444 FG. Sure, we'd get a couple more MPG, but I like just how easy it is to drive in traffic... and coming from a car that only got 18mpg... I'm not complaining. Can't wait for the snow!!! --kC |

Trust me- the XV is in even more need of 6th than a standard Impreza thanks to the 4.44's.

This thing is running 3000 rpm at around 65 mph. It needs low gearing to pull and get going, but out on the interstate or turnpike it is very buzzy, and could really use a higher gear for such occasions. 1-5 are great around town and locally though.

I mean, all I'm suggesting is that it would be a better car if we got the same 6mt that other markets get with the same car.
Is the rest of the world crazy iyho? |

Looking at the specs in Subaru UK...
They have: - 5MT (Dual range) with 4.444 (Dual range only in lowest econ model) - 6MT with 4.444 (Gas) - 6MT with 4.111 (Diesel only) The gassers don't get the 4.111, probably becuase they don't have the same low-end grunt. --kC |

What Im saying is that the 6mt with 4.44's is the one we should get!
Not saying I'd rather have the 4.11's that the standard impreza comes with. |

But I'd settle for the dual range.

Ok I just looked up the ratios again. The XV 6mt has all the same ratios as ours- BUT they get a .695 sixth gear for freeway cruising. They have the same .780 fifth as us and the same 4.444 axle ratios as us.
It appears they may have a slightly lower reverse gear though (3.63 vs 3.33) |

Ok, getting ready to add another vehicle to service fleet that I'd planned on using all SWP imp sport premiums. Now, I'm thinking the XV is more practical due to not only ground clearance, but better posture loading and unloading from the rear cargo area. My only hiccup is this, I run a kayak rack setup for throwing little giant ladder on top when needed. We carry small version in rear usually. If they are hauling wire spools and a few boxes it'll be better to throw the ladder on the rack. Had anyone on here hauled a kayak or similar on a rack of an XV yet? Is it an issue loading and unloading due to height? I can load a 24' extension ladder on the one I drive and to tie it down I stand on the door sill and n rear I put a foot on door jamb latch loop and other on the sill. I just wonder on the XV how much more of an issue it'll be, and if it'll be enough to offset the benefit of having extra ground clearance and mpg and price difference.

I like the increased height. When loading/unloading it is much easier on my back and also the hatch now has enough height to clear my head when I open it.
I havent used the roof rails for anything, but naturally, its likely that its harder to reach up there since it sits several inches higher. |

Havent had time to do much lately, but I went to lowes and bought some black nylon 3/8" washers and filled up those unsightly holes in the front bumper.
And I realized that my liscense plate frame had white writing all over it, dealer's name,so I sprayed it black with some plasti dip I had laying around. Fnally completes the rear blackening. |

Oh- and I still havent used my roof rails, so I'm starting to think about taking them off.
I just think it may look "slicker" without them, and *maybe* will pick up .125 mpg |
