The light weight bumper beams are only a bumper mounting platform. They have no impact resistance what so ever. If you get into an accident, it will be bad.

They make a heck of a difference in the cars attitude while turning, though.

Your bumper becomes a fancy shell rather than any form of crash resistance.

Thanks.

Would anyone who used these in the past several years, please share your experience?

I did some searches and found posts on people swapping them out since year 2000. I think if you would share your experience, the information would be extremely valuable to us.

Ah . . . I see. I didn't realized from your post that you had them on for several years.

I was wondering if you ever got hit?

If so, what was your experience of it?

If not . . . do you still constantly worry about the possibility, etc?

How has the bumper beams held up? Are the bumpers sagging at all? Based on the searches I read, they sound pretty flimsy. But maybe they are good enough to hold up to everyday wear.

Your experience is appreciated.

I got rolled into from some guy that forgot to hold the brakes down on his automatic car. It nudged my car forward slightly but the bumper popped right out with no problem. I don't have any experience with a real accident as I avoid those.

I never really worried about a real accident. As far as my understanding went, what is getting removed is the 5mph bumpers so the car could be damaged more in smaller accidents. Large accidents, however, would still incur typical damage. I don't know if this is completely true, though. The parts came from the factory on some of the STis so I figured if there were ok on an STi they were ok for me.

The beams held up fine. No sagging or misaligned parts. They looked factory (they are factory).

there is a 3rd bumper beam out there that is inbetween the light weight and the usdm..the jdm

in my opinion the light weight is too scary to use with all the cell-phone-soccer-moms-in-SUVs out there

In a "real" crash (above say 35mph) your bumper beams don't do jack, anyway. The thing you have to come to grips with is that a small accident in a parking lot/etc. will most likely destroy the beam and be more expensive than if you had the heavy beams in there. If you can live with that, go for it.

Right, the factory USDM beam is only for 5mph crash testing. Above 10mph, it's all in the crumple zones - it doesn't matter which bumper beam you have,

In my Eagle Talon race car, I don't have bumper beams in at all. Bumper covers are held on by strategically placed zip ties.

If you have two cars, go ahead and try the bumper beams. If your subie is your daily driver and only car, skip them. Thats my recomendation.

best place to get them is? I have a usdm beam in the garage and think that I want to go light. As this isn't a daily driver, and I want to keep the weight down without stripping the car.
