These rod bearing failures are definitely a defect batch. Has to be. I blew my lands on my motor at 10K and the rod bearings looked brand new. I have over 20K with the same bearings (I even split the block) running forged pistons and I do DET often enough that if the bearings were weak, mine would have spun as well.
