Default What to do to my Subaru Impreza 2.5i

Alright so i just bought a brand new Subaru Impreza 2.5i, And i was wondering what should i do to it to get some more horses out of that engine?

I was thinking Headers, Exhaust, Intake... Id like to get a hoodscoop, But i dont know if its worth it since it cant be connect to anything(I think)

I was reading around this forum section, And i read that its not a good idea to Turbo a 2.5i(???)

I also believe its possible to buy a WRX Body Kit from Subaru.

And no im not gonna sell my 2.5i and buy a used WRX lol.

There's really no point to modding a 2.5i's engine unless you're made of money. Intake is useless, they give you CELs and take all that low end power that NA engines are supposed to have and stick it right at about 4000 RPM. Ask yourself, when you will ever constantly be at 4000 RPM?

Also, UEL headers and exhaust are pure aesthetics, meaning they will give you very very minimal gain for the money you will have to pay for it all. Is 5-10 HP worth about 600-1000 dollars? Also skip the hoodscoop ... I don't know why the hell you'd consider one but it looks tacky on a car that doesn't need it and it'll attract all sorts of idiots wanting to race you

Don't even think about putting a turbo on a brand new car. You're likely not going to do anything to support the turbo kit (engine work), so even if you're running 5 psi, you're putting a LOT of pressure on your engine internals, and that all = big kaboom. At least drive it until the warranty is over.

Lesson here is WORK ON YOUR SUSPENSION. Since the engine is too costly to mod, work on your suspension to make it fun to drive around and tossable around corners. Start with a rear sway bar, since your car doesn't come with one. Work your way up to WRX struts later, then maybe even coilovers if you so desire. Don't forget tires, too. Your stock RE92 tires are garbage.

If you have extra money laying around that you can spend, go ahead and spend it on UEL headers and a catback. It gives a great sound but it doesn't really do THAT much. Thing is, with the new 08-11 2.5i's, UEL headers may need custom fab to fit.

Is this going to be a DD? AutoX? Just a want a little more fun out of whatcha got?

Suspension, wheels and tires will make the most noticeable improvements without going to crazy and voiding warranties. Headers and a cat back will sounds good but the gains are on the low side.(but the sounds is gooood, )

Since its a new car and if you plan to keep it an extended amount of time I would suggest heat management and over all efficiency.

If you have too much $$$$ and its just burning holes in your pockets (aka you can afford to be without the car,) you may want to look into supercharging.

It will take deep pockets to have this done and or EXTREME amounts of research and work.

Basically just more fun. Im not rich, Ill probably just do the Suspension, Tires/Rims and put a wing, HIDs on it and call it a day. From what you guys are telling me anything to with the engine is basically pointless. And yes im planning to keep it for a while, Since its my first car etc etc. But like i said i wouldnt mind a body kit i love the 2010 WRX Body :O

Whats DD/AutoX?

DD = Daily Driver meaning its not going to a separate weekend or track car

Auto X = Autocross, events set up in parking lots with cones where people bring all sorts of cars to drive around and test their skills. It's a great way to learn to limits of your cars handling so you won't do something stupid later on by trying to push the car farther than it can go

BTW, go without the wing and HIDs. The HID topic is way overdone, but the general consensus is that HIDs do not belong in halogen (what your car has) housings. They generate too much glare, don't have the proper cut off, and blind everyone on the road. Look in the electrical forum for more information.

The WRX body panels do look great, but I don't think the front bumper will fit on your car. The '11 WRX has wider fenders so it won't fit, same with the rear bumper (I think). However, you can go for the more subtle 09' WRX body styling which still looks damn good.

I hate to say it but you should've just gotten a WRX if you have the extra money to mod a 2.5i. But now that you have it since it would be bad to trade out of it so soon, I would only do suspension mods to it. Or take the mod money you plan on using and save it and use it for a WRX down the road.

Did it come with the low profile spoiler like the WRX? I wouldn't get a wing like the STI unless you actually have an STI, but you can get the stock 2.5i or WRX spoiler as that looks good.

Nope it didnt :< My engine doesnt even have a damn cover.

And i was thinking of the small low profile wing i saw a WRX 2010 with it and that would look fine on my car.

Is it a manual or auto? If its a manual I suggest shifter bushings. $30 well spent. Stupid easy to install.

You might also want to look into some JDM interior pieces, some of those are really nice and add a finished custom look with out being ricey.

I have a 2008 2.5i and its a great everyday drive. Enjoy your first car and save your money for a project car or upgrading to something a bit more suited for modifications.

I know down the line i WILL get a WRX, I love Subaru's since as long as i can remember.

I live down in Broward (South Florida) And its rare to see a Subaru hell even a Subaru Impreza. Everyone compliments the car and what not.

After the advice you guys given me ive taken it all into consideration, And im just gonna work on the suspension, tires, rims, and get the low profile WRX wing. No engine tunning.

Thanks guy

Default WRX Hood

I had the front end of my 2008 2.5i remodeled by a deer. The earlier reply is right about people wanting to race you with the WRX hood, but i think the hood swap onto my car + a grillcraft scoop grille looks pretty good. The hood is the same size and will fit right on, you may have to adjust the hood latch and hinges for a better fit. The hood will set you back a lot of money though. The insurance company paid for my hood and paint. The scoop was $165 and the grille was $95. The hood itself is $400--so with paint and labor, unless you can do it, it will cost you $1000 for that hood.

The scoop doesn't "connect" to anything -- there's simply an opening on the hood with a louver built in to allow air to enter through the top of the hood and into the intercooler that feeds the turbo. If you do this on a standard 2.5i engine hood, the air will just go over the top of your engine and won't actually accomplish anything.

A note about this "wing" you want to install: it's called a "spoiler" on the WRX and a "wing" on the STI. That may be why you're getting suggestions not to install a wing on a car.

Does any company make coilovers for the base model 2.5i hatchback? I've done searches but can't find anything. If so is anyone running them??

well, kind of

08+ STi spoiler = 09+ WRX spoiler for the hatch's
The 08 WRX spoiler is now on several of the other impreza models (which is likely the one currently on OP's 2.5i, but I don't think he ever said if he had hatch or sedan)

wing or spoiler is a matter of semantics if its a hatch version of the STi or WRX or any of the other models with the same piece

only with the '11 Sedan STi has the old-school 'wing' returned.
