cost me $15 for the laser cut only, key blank not included. $160 probably includes the transponder chip?

Yep, the prices of $100+ are usually for cutting and transponder programming. Some locksmith's aren't interested in cutting keys if you don't want to pay for the transponder too. $15 is a great price for the cutting. If anyone is having luck with certain locksmith's, please post up the info. It may help other people find someone to cut their key.

It's really a fun one! It's the only "car mod" that I get to see/play with when I'm not in my car!

I really wish people wouldn't buy from that seller. He is just trying to make an easy buck off of the work that others have done (ie. Power6's research and this thread that I created). Also, his price isn't very good. Lol. But that's just my biased opinion....

Thanks xluben for fast shipping and providing a great mod. I went to Chaplin's Subaru in Bellevue, WA (physical location of subarugenuineparts.com) and picked up the Legacy key for ~$85, which is much more expensive than on the parts website. However, they did the laser cut on the switchblade key blank for free, so, I think it was an alright deal.

Programming was fairly easy, got it on the second try.

If you go to Subaru tomorrow to get a new remote for say an 02 WRX, they will sell you a teardrop, the part number is going to be the same as the 05-07 Legacy. The 2009 Legacy remote is compatible, but far more convenient, and you can also use that to make the flip key if you like. (*make sure you follow remote programming for your particular car, it changed over the years)

The 08-10 Impreza (09-10 Forester) is an "island of incompatibility" for whatever reason. The remotes look exactly the same as the old ones but don't work together. That is the problem I found and the basis of the need to swap the keyless unit.

11-up is a new era where all of the remotes are compatible again between Legacy/Forester/Impreza/WRX so you can use the 11+ Legacy keys.
So you can program teardrops to the 02-05s? You don't have to the use the round blob looking one with the orange and blue buttons?

Hello all, just got my 57497AJ10A Legacy key. Found out that it will not work in my car (Canadian Forester 2012 with FCC ID: NHVWB1U711).
Question 1: will it work if i order 57497AJ00A key (or it is only for Imprezas)?
Question 2: does anyone need a new key 57497AJ10A?
