Cams? Which set?
I was looking in putting camshafts in my car. Which set would you go with for max power on a stock bottom end ?

You have an 02 WRX with TBE, uppipe and a large TMIC? As in still on the stock TD04? I would HIGHLY suggest you do a turbo upgrade before you go down the avenue of cams.
Keep in mind cams will just about always push the powerband to the right for top-end. Your turbo will not make top-end power. And I'm not going to say you won't gain anything...I just think for the money you are MUCH better off doing a basic STI turbo (vf-xx) swap. Do some research. |

Yeah but Billy I think that money would be much better spent elsewhere! Understand that TD04 turbo is falling on its face (HARD) by 5k RPM with stock head and cams. Most builds that you see beefier cams on already have the built bottom end, big turbo, P&P heads w/ upgraded springs, retainers, valves, etc. And you're not going to want to take things that far unless you're also ready to do something about your transmission (as in swap it with an STI 6-speed or go with a PPG 5-speed).
The turbo on your car supports low to mid-range power (but mostly low ) and the factory cams will support that just fine. A basic STI turbo swap will blow your socks off compared to a TD04. If I were you I'd start searching for: -used VF-xx turbo -used Cobb AP -new Walboro 255lph FP -Injector Dynamics (or whatever brand) injectors (something in the 750-800cc for plenty of headroom) -find a reputable tuner in your area. |

There are lots of things I would consider before cams.

If you insist in cams get a set of used sti cams and block off the avcs holes. They'll give you a little more cam lift. But know since you changed stuff up now you have to sped more time and money getting your valve clearances right

complete ****ing waste of money. You select your cams based on turbo size and hp goal and what you use the car for period. Is your goal 400+? if so add the external and internal parts to get there and select cams. td04 has NO need for cams. If your looking to blow a 1k Ill take it and put your name on the side of my car for a season.

I bought cams for a later build, so I stuck them an a stock bottom end for a while. A little while, It moved the power to the right where it got rev happy. The stock crank and bearings didn't like it there. Nether did the next two stock blocks. I got to build my motor when I ran out of stock blocks laying around. Go for it then maybe you will get to build the bottom end.

I'm confused, people are telling you to do everything but cams and you want cams for 300whp?
Upgrade everything but cams. Why ask a question and dismiss everyone's answer? Not trying to be an ass, if you built the motor then yah, cams are important (dependent on power goal) but for your power goal your cams are fine. You seem to have everything you need for your goals. Don't waste money because you are waiting on parts. Money shouldn't burn a hole in your pocket. If you are really horny on cams get the sti ones as suggested above. They are cheap to and will be an improvement. No sense to be buying an aftermarket cam for your goals. |

Right on. You still won't gain any power though if you stay with that small turbo.
