need help with WRX 2.5l swap, WRX Heads and UTEC
No luck in conversions so I figured I would try here.
My swap is almost completed and I need some advice about my UTEC map. I have a 2.5 liter swap where I am using modded stock injectors, a VF30, TurboXS TMIC and WRX Heads. I would like to ensure that my fuel map is close enough to at least start on the right foot with road tuning. I chose to use the STI stage 1 fuel map in conjunction with the WRX timing map, retarded two degrees just to get it on the road. I am looking for an expert opinion on whether this is a safe point to start. Also I wonder if anyone has had a problem with idle or maintaining a stoich AFR when the UTEC was not in control. Thanks in advance for the help. Once I finish the break-in, I will most likely be taking it to TurboXS to get tuned...

Do you have a map you were running with before the 2.5L swap? Honestly, if you break it in on wastegate pressure only you should be more than fine with something close. Once you've broken the engine in I'd then get a tune with full boost and be on your happy way.
p.s. I'm doing the same thing actually..... I'm running the same supporting mods but have swapped in a 2.5L block and STi heads. I'm running wg boost and taking it easy (I rarely take it above 4500rpm) and everything has been fine so far. I'm actually wondering if my method is too conservative to even break the engine in correctly.... lol. |

Yeah, I have been wondering the same thing. I have a tune already, but there was a significant disparity between the WRX fuel map with my Stage 4 tune and what I seen on the STI map in respect to the amount of fuel. Especially on the low end where the STI map runs significantlly richer.
Thanks for the input. That alleviates the concern that I am going to blow up once the ignition is turned. |

If someone with more tuning experience than me can chime in that would be cool (which is almost anyone)
You have me thinking now about the low end fuel map discrepancies. I still think the wastegate boost will offset the fuel issue.... but it would be nice to hear it from an expert |

I have turned down my boost as well. I do hope an expert chimes in here soon!
