Default The 2015 WRX & STI Thread

I figured AKIC would appreciate their own thread to discuss this as it is gradually revealed. Official reveal is soon at hand. Here's a teaser in the meantime.

Official unveil at LA Auto Show next week. Most likely specs with that too. Ordering opens up January 9th, I believe, so Subaru is expecting early 2014 arrivals for these. I would shoot for these to be in Alaska by the end of April, based on previous ordering and arrivals for other Subaru models.

Apparently Subaru is touting that the new WRX will be the best-handling AWD car they've ever built. I'm sure some understeer will still be dialed in.

It still has the Godawful side mirrors from the 2012+ Impreza/ XV Crosstrek.

They're functional. I actually liked them a lot in the 2012 Impreza I drove last year. However, they don't belong on a performance car. They make me think of elephant ears, more so the African elephant instead of the Asian elephant.

MEH,

No interest at all.

But glad the performance is there and the model is still on the market.

Meh as well.

My next ride hopefully will be some sort of wagon, and more than likely an Audi one. Allroad, S4 Avant if they bring it back stateside, etc..

Though I'd be interested in seeing what news comes from the Levorg.

Yeah I really hope that comes true and to the states. As it sits, with this WRX it just looks like what it always has: A modified Impreza. They're obviously using it to capture the "sporty sedan" segment. They have the coupe segment with the BRZ. The Levorg would cover "sporty wagons". The Levorg gives me hope that something sporty-looking with AWD and utility will actually reach our shores.

Subaru hasn't said much about the STI except that it will have more than 300HP. People are hoping the STI will be it's own beast finally, but who knows. I'm doubtful. Subaru is such a conservative company and the STI is such a relatively low-volume car that having it as anything other than a top-tier trim for an existing line is pure fantasy.

Subaru is moving the Impreza production to North America eventually, so maybe that will help free up capacity in Japan for funner models in the future. That should include Forester as well since then all their bread and butter cars will be made in their most popular market.

And just what is it that is sporty about possibly one of the fugliest vehicles I have ever seen...

It reminds me of the Mazda MPV.

Well, the silhouette chano posted in the levorg thread looks more sporty and less ... MPVish.

I'm Ok with the front end but unless the STi has a better looking ass I'm glad I can't afford it anyways. And saying the STi has over 300hp probably just means it weighs more. That's it for my pessimism, I'm still excited to hear everything else about it.

You need to get updated on what's real-ish! That rendering is the oldest example. Go check out the thread I created for the Levorg. Come on, give me SOME credit in my tastes!

Here's a rendering with the STI wing. I like it more than previously, which isn't saying a whole lot, actually.

Also a rendering of what will be revealed, based on color of teaser and known images so far:

I think it looks like a damn corolla with a hood scoop. Absolutely upset with Subaru right now. So much for getting away from the impreza and making the Sti/Wrx there own line just another ugly cloning of a growing ugly line of cars the brz is the only good thing subaru has going for them.

Meh. I lost alot of interest in the subaru wrx's since 07 models. to me it looks like what a legacy should be, not impreza/wrx.

I would like to hear more about the specs of the car. and the sti being 300ish hp isnt anything new. 300hp to 310hp isnt a that big of an improvement.

I really hope that isn't what the production model will look like. I didn't buy my sti for the looks, I bought it because I love sports cars, and it is a very capable car. Also a huge plus I can drive it year round up here.

As far as specs go, I'd really like to see a high quality dual clutch paddle shift transmission. I know it's not as fun as a true manual, but you can't beat how much faster you could make gear changes.

This might whet your appetite concerning specs. New WRX versus BRZ. Notice the body roll.
