You are gonna cream your jeans dude. Cereal. That thing is bad ass and if you have arts and crafts skills with the wrap it looks terrific. I'm really loving the sound of the EL header too as its very Porsche like and grows on you.

So no spray like we did with the old wrap? Even to get a few more anal retentive degrees because...you know...racecar.

that wrap is very easy to do sharp bends with. i used the 1'' and mine came out very nice and tight wrapped. it takes some time and patience though. the ends will fray like hell if you arent careful like unabomber said.

Sweet! Just ordered the wrap you used as well as the Tomei ELH. Thanks for the lesson. I'll be taking my time with it for sure.

you will love that setup! im soo happy with the el header sound. no more drone killing my ears. take your time with the wrap. it will look awesome when you are done. also, those metal ties are useless. i went on ebay and bought a box of stainless gear hose clamps. they hold nice and secure. the wraps dont stay tight and slide around during install.

i wrapped each one individually. it takes a little patience. keep it tight with plastic zipties as you work done each tube. then remove them when finished. the stock uppipe is a pita to remove. i had to lift the pass side of my engine about an inch to get room to pull it out from the bottom.

This was the warp-type used for my UP/DP and EWG pipe that runs back into the DP.
So, headers are on their way and the wrap has already arrived. Question is this: With headers like Perrin, with the runners fairly close together, is it best to wrap 2 into 1 or work it like a champ and wrap the runners as individually as possible? Which would net the best heat retention property? This (though it has both) vs |

It is better to wrap each runner individually. No space between runners = less heat lost. I have tired it both ways and got better results with the individually wrapped runners. I have (most of, custom job) Perrin headers.

Awesome write up UB. Made this look easy. Attempting the DP within the next week. Thanks to this write-up, feeling a bit more confident in knocking it out.

Cool. I will suck it up and do my measuring and wrap the runners individually as much as possible.

Call the fire truck's
Thanks Ron, another good post
I bet you had one hell of a smoke signal going on for the first 100 miles, as I sure did when I did mine. Works like the post says though! |

Is there a way to wrap something over this so that water, dirt and oil from getting soaked into the wrap.
I was thinking something like the silver stuff on the unabomber's turbo wrap guide. Can I just layer aluminium foil and wrap that with headers, uppipe, and downpipe? Is it possible to retain the OEM heat shields on the headers? I have the OEM headers and uppipe. |

Thermo-Tec 16850 could be used or for baller status (I was going to use this option then my non-baller wallet said no) http://www.aclperformance.com.au/prod_heatshield.htm is what you could use as its basically thin metal (and was/still is used to wrap APS headers). It's very expensive though, when I checked into it (my memory sucks) it was pricey as crap along with not knowing how much to order to wrap headers.

Just picked up 2 1"x50' rolls for 60 bucks shipped off of Autoplicity. Thoughts on laying down some thermal paint before wrapping?
My plan was to paint and wrap my uppipe, dump tube, and ported stock headers and use whatever is left on my FMIC plumbing. If I still have a lot left I'll wrap my ceramic coated downpipe. |

My thought process behind wrapping the piping first is that the engine itself gets pretty toasty. I have a turbo blanket and heatshield that I can touch so I don't think that much heat escaping off the turbo. I want to keep the colder side of the I/C as insulated as possible because presumably the charge is cooler than the engine bay temp.
