2002 Wrx Wagon
I have a 2002 subaru wrx wagon with some work done to it, problem is , or are I should say...
1. Automatic transmission... 2. Transmission has 140k miles on it and will probably go soon. It's already slipping etc I figured I'd get a new transmission being the motor is basically new and I wanna keep driving it. I could probably just put another 4eat transmission in it but I'm wondering if its possible for me to swap to either a oem 5spd wrx transmission or a 6spd sti trans or something. If I'm gunna replace the trans anyway why not swap to manual? Well that's my question how do I do this and what do I need Would a shop do it being I have absolutely no free time at the moment and I don't know the slightest thing about transmissions If yea what kind of shop should I look for If no, no big deal I know people personally that could do it I just feel bad asking lol If anyone who knows about this **** could get back to me that'd be awesome. Thanks!!

yes, its possible to convert from auto to manual, tons of people have done it.
yes, you could swap to either a 5 speed or 6 speed. however, judging by the fact that you are asking this, in the newbies forum at least, tells me that you most likely cannot afford it. swap a stocker back in and enjoy. |

His point was that this is a common question that with a simple search, the OP could find his answer. |

Ok first off welcome to the site. Then to answer your question, yes you can def, swap either the 5spd or the 6spd in to the car with the exsiting motor. This has been done tons of different times by millions of different people so if you search around you can def find some who has made a how to thread basically on what you need to get what you have to do. Search threw the classifieds section of the forum and you will def find people selling both the 5spd and the 6spd. Keep in mind the 6spd is basically bullet proof and will handle anything you throw at it while the 5spd is far from bullet proof and will hold up but only if your careful. I had a 300whp wrx wagon with a 5spd and never had a -problem with mine but I know how to drive amanual, babied the car for the most part and never luanched it. So if your looking to put out around that kind of power your gonna have to drive the car like I did basically and baby it and not luanch it or dal with a blown up trans. Now with that said the 6spd is great because it weill handle anything you put in its way but it is very expensive to do the swap. SO do some research and figure out whats gonna be best for you and your setup. The classifieds on this site are a great place to start looking for either tranny and additonal parts you will need to do the conversion and use either the search function on here on google to find a thread where someone has given a list on what you need and how to do the conversion. Good luck!
