Default Hi, I'm eclip5e. I'm a new (Official) member

Hi,
I've posted a few times, but I didn't have my subaru until yesterday. I asked for advice, you guys gave it. And I picked a 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS.

I bought it from Tri-City in NH for $16,500 with a trade-in for my 1992 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition (180,000 miles). Got about $2000 for that.

Now i'm an official member.

I've got 3 questions now.

1) Is there a Service Manual, like the Bentleys for the 2.5RS? If so, where can i get it?

2) What should I do to my subie now that i've got it. I don't have too much money, and i'm quite pleased because its fully loaded. I was thinking sway bars (Everythings gotta be STi BTW).

3) Wheres the best place to buy it.

thanks guys (and girls?).

there is no cheap service manual for the 2.5 the only thing you can get is the SOA service manuals and the set tends to be rather expensive.

the first tihngs i would do on short money and tall free time is painting some stuff. For instance those ugly orange fake break vents. just pop em out and paint them something less.... offensive another thing is lear turnsignals cornerlights and fenderlights are pretty cheap and IMHO make the car look alot better. Theay are easily had on ebay. but be patient and you can get good deals. If ya really want to get into the cheap mods start giving your interior a custom paint job. Ive seen some that have come out really well. Enough of my rant. Here are a couple sights that you can go take a look around at.

Cool! You'll like it, I'm sure. It's quite different than the Exploder.

1) There is a service manual. But only the Shop one from Subaru. Too low a volume of car to consider a special publication.

2) Why only STi? They're too expensive. Start by a whiteline adjustable, or at least upgrade to the FHI 20mm as seen on http://www.subaruwrxparts.com (They do have 1st gen parts too. Then get some good tires after the winter is over.

3) See above.

If I had my RS again, all I would have bought is a rear sway bar (adjustable because they are so cheap now), and good tires.

Enjoy the car and I hope to meet up with you soon. Many of us "working in the city" folks do lunch every other Friday, or we'll meet up in Boston for dinner sometimes. Keep an eye open for a post.

Nate, when did you move into Boston? Or are you at the same location by Pete?

While there isn't a 2.5RS specific 3rd party manual, the Haynes Legacy manual is actually useful for a number of things (though notably not the electrical system ) but for suspension/brakes/general fix-it stuff, it'll be a good reference.

If you're going to get anything for it right off the bat, tires are a good choice. Before you buy any performance parts though, get used to the car so you'll be able to tell the difference when you've installed something new. In fact, based on what you wish the car would be like after driving it for a few months, you can plan a set of upgrades to get you there.

one inexpensive STi mod that gives you a lot of power is to get the STi sticker kit from KC (www.rallydecals.com). i put mine on last weekend and my wagon's been a whole different animal since!

Yeah, since I put the STi kit on my mighty TS, I've been blowing away everything from Ferraris to Metros. My gf put the kit on her Impreza L, and it'll take most WRXs now.

Another cheap mod is a painted grill badge. cheap n easy.

There are lots of cheap DIY ramen-spec mods you can do. just do a couple searches if you have anything in mind. There's a DIY version of most mods out there.

Welcome!

Just an FYI, expect to pay a hefty premium for anything with "STI" on it anywhere. I just payed $40 for an STI key! There are alot of other companies out there that make stuff cheaper than STI. And, for the most part, just as good a product.

BTW, I second the Whiteline adjustable swaybar/endlinks. On my list of things to get this summer.

And stickers=HP. The Fast and the Furious taught me that. He he...

Oh, and one last thing. Feel lucky you don't need the '99 manuals - $795! OUCH!

John

Brian, isn't that bad, considering your occupation ?

eclip5e, don't forget the $50/member joining fee. Just oull up a list of all NESIC members and send us all $50, or an equivalent amount of gumballs (for example: 200 25 cent gumballs or 500 10 cent gumballs). Chicklets don't count.

actually depends on the location of where you find the ahem... girl, not that I know or anything

igg- I'll let the stats decide- been in the business so to speak for 2 yrs, I have "had" 14 or so cardiac arrests. though I've gotten 3 saves documented. so theoretically I have a higher than average save record, but that many codes in that short amount of time is pretty staggering. ok I'll amend the comment, if you have to call me to your house, chances are your messed up of course I've also had my shares of "if you didn't do such and such the patient would have died" so I guess it evens off

speed safely

Brian

numbers stated above do not include those that are dead and called on the scene that would just scare most, even me if I thought about that number

I think if you search for the thread I did a week or so back, you can find out the short description of the active player's on the group. I think there's a link to keith's mom's website, too!
