I have an 08 WRX Automatic,I can drive alot in one day, didn't want a stick. My question is, I have been looking for a downpipe, but I notice a lot of them say "Manual Transmission Only" but some of them say "Will fit automatic with modifcations". Does anyone know what kind of modifcations it is talking about?
Please advise, thank you.

Default Fuel Pressure Loss Issues

Anyone else having fuel pressure loss issues with their new 2008? I had problems with the car hesitating on me when I was getting down to 1/4 tank. Dealer found a few peices of debris floating around in the tank. They removed them, checked the voltage on the fuel pump and got the car back to me. It just hasn't felt the same though since it started acting up. Anyone else experience this with their vehicle or think there may be further damage from the fuel pressure loss issues? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

this is my first post so im a noob to this forum so dont flame me. i think they may be talking about the transmission casing. i have heard on some downpipes that the casing has to be cut just a hair for it to fit without any rubbing. check on it a little more though because i might not be right.

I never noticed it associated with fuel tank level, but I had a hesitation that they initially replaced the crank position sensor for, then it came back within a week, and they then replaced the ECM, but that wasn't apparently all of the issue, so finally they replaced all 4 injectors. Now the fuel delivery seems to be ok, but there is a rough idle down, especially if the AC is on.

Well, I ran into my first problem with the new car the other day. After dropping a substantial amount of oil from the oil return line onto the up-pipe and then down onto the subframe, a small fire ensued. The fire was put out quickly and nothing was damaged.
The next day I was informed by another '08 WRX owner that SOA had announced a recall on the oil line. My concern is that the broken oil line may have starved the turbo for oil press. and destroyed the bearings and seals within the turbo.
What do you guys think? The car is back at the dealership now and being inspected. The car has been modded, but is in stock trim now. I've been told that Subaru has ordered the recall item in question, but have heard nothing about the condition of the turbo itself. Should the turbo be damaged and not under warranty, would I be better off just upgrading to say a VF39 or VF46? And btw, how difficult would it be?

Does anyone know how much torque a stock 08' clutch and transmission will hold? I have a premium 08' WRX premium and after smoking a few turbo civics I pulled into Sheetz and I could smell my clutch. The only thing I've done to my car is the SPT exhaust, which sounds nice btw but it isn't extremely loud. Also when I raced I launched from 2k rpms and let the clutch out fairly fast, which may have something to do with that, but I'm still curious.

I've seen an 08 WRX around my neck of the woods with an aps sr55, fmic, HUGE exhaust and a ton of fuel and management mods that's pushing somewhere around the low-mid 400 hp range. When I talked to him he said that he hadn't had any drivetrain issues yet. (He's had the car since it debuted.)

how do all of you feel now that the 09 is more powerful, summer tires, and better suspension?

Doesn't bother me, I would still plan to add a bigger turbo and a bunch of mods regardless of 08 or 09.

Pretty crappy, to tell you the truth, especially since I've had a lot of problems with mine so far. When the 12 month-everythings included warranty is up, I'll be adding an STi Turbo and IC, Perrin A/R bars, Springs, and will have it Pro-Tuned, so for another $2k out of pocket, I should be running a bit faster... assuming it holds together.

Really good, It looks way better than your car, has more horsepower, way more torque than the 2.0, heated seats, and cops don't look at it. Gearboxes don't break.

either way, i was looking into getting an 09 as my Legacy is off its lease this month.

I would be pissed if I bought an 08 because I don't plan on a bigger turbo as I use mine too much for commuting and need a warranty as I don't have tons of cash laying around to pay to fix something that I broke.

* Opinion
* WRX's haven't been using EJ20 for a few years now o_O
* Power and Torque are nothing to boast about...LGT weights more, 09 WRX has the numbers and the decreased weight.
* Gear box can break
* You can get heated seats in the full lineup now.

:-x

From an 05 LGT owner that just bought an 08 WRX ..

I saved 6k by buying the 08 vs the 09 becuase they wanted to get rid of them... already had wheels and tires from the leggy...and most mods fit that I already had off the Legacy...

to some of your other posts...
it's practically the same car as your '05 LGT so be careful there..
Turbo is different but it spools faster and stock has about the same powa as the 05lgt did
It handles just as sloppy as a stock Legacy (stock vs stock)
And the transmission/clutch combo on 08+ wrx is guess what... the same LGT tranny/clutch they have used since 05

It's more comfortable that my Legacy GT limited was , more responsive, and has more leg room...and I can upgrade the stereo without a sound processing unit

My only complaints: no sunroof option in 08.

We just turned an 08 legacy outback station wagon back in that we had as a loaner and there is WAY less leg room in the station wagon than the 08 WRX. With the car seats in the outback, my kids feet were touching the back of the seat, where in the WRX, there is like 2 inches to spare.

Now that they have fixed all the problems(only took three visits, a new crank position sensor, ECM, 4 injectors, an air filter, and the removal of a hose clamp that they had wedged between the engine mount and front cross-member, causing a vibration at idle, and the steering to be bound kind of tight.) I'm getting towards being happy with the car. We'll see in about a year when I have the STi Turbo, I/C, SPT Exhause/Intake, protune, sway bar, and springs installed.

I launch from around 4k and ride the clutch slightly. It works very well and there is no nasty clutch smell. Your quick release of the clutch could cause it to slip causing the smell.
