Default VF30 wagon back at the track and on the dyno

Took the car down to SlowMotion Motorsports in Columbus, OH, for their dyno day Saturday. Really happy with the torque number, pretty happy with the HP, not happy with the A/F.

290awhp
290awtq

under 11:1 a/f above 5000rpm

gonna have to order StreetTuner to get that sorted out. Overall very happy with the car.

Sunday we went to Lapeer Dragway in Lapeer, Michigan for open test and tune. 50 degrees, sunny, with a decent crosswind for most of the day.

12.47 @ 109.7

That was the best run. Trapped over 110 twice, both with 12.5x ETs. 1/8 mile times were all in the 8.0 - 8.1 range at ~92mph. 60fts were mid 1.7s Really really happy with the way the car ran.

I'm #214

from a fellow VF30 owner, congrats on the numbers!

OT, what did you do to get those Brembos on the rear? Rear end swap or buy an uber expensive bracket?

Hey, i've got a VF30 and was also tuned at slo mo. They got me 270hp 255 tq. Think i should go back and see if they can tweak something?

Your track times are pretty sick. I was going to go to national trails for the first time this past weekend but they closed the test/tune. I was hoping to run 12.99 but you give me hope that i could do a touch better.

Nice numbers!

i didn't actually have corey do any tuning at slomo just cause it was the dyno day. I did change boost a little between runs, but that was just to try to get the A/F to come back to where i want it. other than that it's just a standard VF30 map.

you can do better than 12.99. I did 12.94 at national trail (with a broken header running 14psi) and 12.85 at Richmond Dragway (as the teeth came off of 1st gear in my 5 speed).

What's wrong with 11.0:1? How much leaner do you want to go on an OTS tune?

There's nothing wrong with 11:1. There IS however something wrong with 9s, which is where the graph was at the end of the pull. I'm shooting for around 11.5:1

Boost is ~19.5psi

Those are some nice runs! Very similar to what I've done with my evo3 set up. How are the IDCs on the pinks?

I had been wanting to take the axleback of mine for a track nite, I am totally def in my right ear, so with the helmet on and the windows up, I play hell trying to listen to the revs on launch...also wondered if it was worth any gain.

Again, great runs!

honestly not sure what IDCs are...

as far as the exhaust, i run a Borla Hush twin tip, and the axleback is a slipfit with just a single bolt clamp, so it's really easy to take off. and it sounds freakin sweet. Videos coming shortly

it's not a swapped 207, it's still 205. Just a 6spd swap

last summer i blew the 5 spd apart, so i did the swap. Trans, rear end, axles, hubs, brakes, wheels/tires, new coilovers to tuck fat tires, the whole freakin deal

nice job. do you think 6 sp gearing helped or hurt times?
do you cross the line in 5th now rather than 4th?

crossing the line in 5th. i'm not sure what to think on helping or hurting the times. it went 2 tenths faster to the 1/8 stripe, but at 7 mph higher, and trapped 6 mph at the 1/4 line

That's pretty good!!

I trapped 110mph several times when I had my vf-30, what a good turbo, you don't see too many people running that fast. You have to be about dead on with the tune.

FWIW I made 307whp and 289wtq on the dyno with my A/F at ~10.8:1 up top and about 18psi of boost.

Congrats on the wicked fast runs.

Drivetrain, not powertrain

my tune is pretty far off. Boost for the dragstrip was around 19psi, i think with less fuel it should pick up some power and maybe get another 10hp, i'd like to clip 12.3x as it sits right now.

As for suspension, Ground Control coils over Konis in the back and STi KYBs up front.

Not sure what a stock WRX would put down on that dyno. It's pretty optimistic though, a stock '06 STi put down 260ish right after I went. i'm not a huge fan of dynapack dynos, and my runs were cut short at 6500rpm. I think a real tune would do wonders for me. I also have an APS front mount sittin in the garage, but I'd really like to see how low i can push it as it sits.

BTW updated the top post with dyno and track vids and graph pictures

im so confused now.. there are alot of vf30/34/39 sheets out there and some make 260's and some like this gentleman here make 290's low 300's.

How much boost are you running im so so so so dang confused.

My theory:

I don't think many tuners in the past have known how to push vf turbos too well but after plenty of practice they're learning and that's why you're starting to see more power from these setups nowadays.
Plus I think people are much more comfortable pushing more boost out of the vf's now.
