Had to give a ride to my boss in my sti which I just bought..

I accelerate slightly (around 4k rpm):
He: "Wow, how much horsepower does it have? Like 200?"
Me: "300 actually"
He: "Holy s**t!"

then he got embarrased about using the word "s**t" hehe

Gas Station Attendant, "Looks like you're ready for a dirt stage with those knoby tires", the day after I installed Dunlop M3's on my winter wheels.

I took it as a compliment.

i hate when people mistake parts for others.

a coworker of mine, who also owns a WRX, was "teaching me" about my car, when he pointed out that his alternator was a "mad fast turbo" and his intercooler was his air filter.

I've tried so hard to get him on the boards to actually learn about his car, but i'm pretty sure hes a lost cause. He's already taken out the carpet, to put in blue home carpet, rip out his clock for gauges when no gauges were order, and still haven't been (hole in the dash for almost a year now) and altezza rear tails... i cry inside when i look at it.

"that's an odd place for a radiator..."
"that's an intercooler"
"???"

"buddy, you're car's misfiring" (and he's a mechanic..)

"OMG i think your tire just blew!" (afterfire)

"what is that?"
"subaru impreza"
'Did they just come out?'
"it's a 93..."

"I love these Australian cars"

"What is this? A Honda?" (cops, twice)

And many more retarded comments I can't remember right now. But for every 10 retards that makes a retarded comment/question, the one that really can appreciate for what the car is, it's history and what's been done is worth it. esp when it comes from the muscle guys, women and older older esp senior crowd.

"Your car sounds like a Harley."
I said the above to a friend I was helping out. his 89 sedan 4wd with an auto was missing two cylinders and running on a straight pipe- no convertor, muffler, nada. Every time the third cylinder decided to thump it skipped it like a retarded wobbling harley engine... (only smarter) but anyway..
I was giving a roommate a ride, moroccan guy in my little 93 2wd. after fresh timing belts, be it my timing method, it took off like a bat out of hell not quite voluntarily..
"This is a speedy speedster." he said laughing. Ambiguos to me, as I thought of some of the oldest little cars with a flat four (porsche speedster). When cars titles as an adjective most likely meant it.
Quote:
why does this car sound like this ?
I have been asked that before. Strangely enough I asked it myself about the ej engine and why I heard something strange inbeween fires. "It double fires, once at the top and once at the bottom." (It killed all hopes right then and there of me evolving into that goofy engine). So the new scoobs not only sound like farts, they have a dainty crank and break parts like no other boxer in history.

I have no more why questions, and hardly get any comments. I guess it only takes twenty years for the same model to get understood.
Ya know.. the ones that really make it to twenty without much.
