Default Small tranny leak at shifter linkage

I have noticed an oil stain on the left side of the transmission case, around where the shifter linkage enters... Does anyone else have this?

I have this issue too, I'm doing a clutch kit install and there's a bit of fluid leaking.

I've actually seen this in almost every 5MT I've worked on. It's pretty common, but varies in severity.

It's a pain in the butt to fix though. You need to completely remove the linkage and the attachment point on the gear selector shaft. Then you need to pull the driveshaft, pull the crossmember, lean the box back and remove the tailstock portion with the center diff. once removed, the seal can be removed and replaced fairly easily.

Count me in as well. Pretty significant amount of oil sloshes out of there and has since about 20k miles.

basically same procedure to remove the center diff. Its a tedious process, but very doable with simple hand tools

Can someone point me in the right direction on the FSM for this?

I've got the tranny out and I need to what's involved in getting the new seal in there.

It looks like you've got to undo the "tail cap" and take off the linkage pieces, but I can't figure out how to remove the linkage piece.

thanks.

This is where I'm at.

Do I have to take the "tail-cap" off the center diff?

I punched out the roll pin that holds the linkage in, but can't get anything else to budge.

How do I get that last piece of linkage off?

Can you see that almost silver colored piece that goes vertically through the linkage?
That's the piece I can't get to move.

Does it punch through like the roll-pin?

Dude, give me a call. I'll PM you my number.

It is actually one roll pin inside another. You need to punch out the inside roll pin and then the outer. They can be it there very tight at time. A proper sized punch helps a lot.

It appears that I have this leak as well. Have a bit of a cash flow crunch right now though - how important is it to get this quickly fixed (versus waiting a while), as long as I make sure the transmission fluid stays at an appropriate level?

I have the same leak on mine right now too. Not looking forward to fixing this but its a must, just keeping an eye on my fluid level for now. Been driving for about 4k miles now on new fluid and doesnt seem to be a huge problem... yet. How much u think a shop would charge for this fix, it seems awfully labor intensive.

Can we get a part number on this ASAP? I searched all over. I am replacing transfer case bearings this weekend and need to replace this as well.
