My System Setup as of now.
Just relaying what I'm going to be doing.
I'm going for a good system, NOT insaine. Here is what is going in. Front : Power Acustik MXC5S (5.25 Components) Back : Power Acustic MXC-6S (6.5in Components) Amp : Jensen 600W amp (cheep for now, I will replace with a better one when I get $) Head Unit : Then NEW Kenwood Z919 that I ordered YESTERDAY and should be in at end of this month! It plays MP3's!!!! I'm sooo happy!!!!!!! this is all thats going in as of next month, after that I plan to put a Band pass Box in the rear witht the Port fitted up between the Two Rear speakers so that the trunk doesn't rattle and so that the car fills with the bass! It sounds really good. I plan on either a Single 12" or a single 15". Not sure what one yet. We'll see. Kyle

I wouldn't get a bandpass box if I were you. I have a single 12" Pioneer in a bandpass, its loud but pretty boomy and monotone. Next time I'm going sealed. Either way, it sounds like your gonna have a pretty good system.

thepas,
Why 5.25" in the front instead of 6.5"? Good luck with the box. I haven't liked any of the bandpass boxes I have used. Just give me small sealed box and I'm much happier. Swivel1000, I belive the stock speakers are 6.5" At least the "upgraded" speakers were in my '00. Aaron http://www.azscooby.freeservers.com |

I'm pretty sure Aaron's right...6.5in rounds in the RS front doors. That's what crutchfield told me anyway. Aaron knows audio!

i have two MTX Road Thunder Subs in a ported box in the trunk with a USAccoustics 600w RMS x1 amp goin to it. talk about spoiler rattling, yeah. but i love the sound in and out of the car, especially with SUBLIME kickin' in the Kenwood deck.
next is a set of component speakers, and the new Kenwood MP3 cd player also. |

The reason for the 5.25s is for one reason. DEPTH!!! even my 5.25's are going to need spacers. the 6.5's would have been too dang deep!

You do realize that even with the Bandpass ported in the cab, Your trunk will STILL rattle.

I'd say skip the rear components, and save for a better amplifier (like you say you're doing anyway). You don't really need components in the rear, just some decent coaxials are fine. Even stock speakers work--technically, it's only fill in the rear. The big sound comes from up front.
Though some folks like rear sound... maybe you're one of them. Otherwise though, I say the heck with the rear components, it's a waste. Excellent choice of CD players though, I love that "jumping dolphins" display on the 919! Oh... and I agree that that's the wrong box type for your sub, go sealed. -S2- |

I have 6.5 in the front, i had to do custom install due to the huge magnet on the woofer. I just used 1"inch think hard wood. I also have the same 6.5 in the rear. The stupid metal bracket wouldnt allow any other speaker to fit in them so i had to do a temp cust job to get them in. As a result im getting nasty vibrating sound coming from the right side speaker. Does anyone have a good idea on how to mount 6.5's in the back?
Let me know, Mad Max |

I have a 99 RS, and used the factory speaker bracket on my 6.5" rear coaxials. They are mounted just like the factory ones. I just re-drilled holes in the bracket for the speaker, and then bolted the bracket back down to the rear tray. I had to cut the speaker bolts so the bracket would sit flat.
I also used dynomat under the bracket. Components in the rear are kind of a waste in my opinion (like spiper2 said). I went with coaxial in the rear, and components up front. My only suggestion would be to replace the rears if you can, and amp all 4 speakers (frt/rear). I have listened to a few systems that amped the front speakers, and left the back stock/or replaced them with no amp. The stock rears will distort at a much lower volume level, and end up really ruining the overall sound. New speakers with no amp are better, but the same thing happens, just not as soon. Especially if you have a good set of fronts w/amp. So for a good overall sound, I suggest amping all 4 speakers, or just take the rears out. I hate distortion. Paul G.
