2 1/2 turns from full stiff rear

17 x 8 ROTAs w/ 245 falken fk452s
Handles decently
I definitely need to make adjustments for best performance.
I dont really care for a comfortable ride since i barely do 6000 miles a year and i drive it fairly aggressively all the time. Its stripped of back seat, back rest, rear mats, spare tire, jack, trunk carpet, everything back there is out.
Im not sure how impressed i am with these shocks, although i know it might be me my lack of fine tuning and not buying a rear sway bar. Ive got a front cusco sway that isnt installed.
My old 99 Audi A4 on Bilsteins and Tein S techs was far more sure footed than the wrx is now. The Audi was heavier and much slower, and also had crappy wheels and tires.

I hope the thicker sway bars, some fender braces and some rear T-braces pull it all together.

Shouldn't you adjust your struts to complement the spring rate? Not sure about the 2tffs sounds pretty agressive.

The damping of the struts should be set with spring rates and road/track surface in mind.

2 tffs is WAY too stiff. We find that for most stiff springs (swift spec r, RCE) the optimal range is 4-5 tffs. No more is needed.

Swift Spec-R springs

24mm front/22mm rear sway bars
17x7 Prodrive P1 wheels, Dunlop star spec tires (225/45/17)
-2.5 camber front, stock rear...0 toe

This is my DD setting. For autocross I've cranked the struts up to as much as 2.5 TFFS and it performs very well. It is unbearable to drive that stiff on regular roads however so thank goodness for the rear adjustment extenders.

4.75 out back seems to be the right setting to eliminate most of the rear strut clunk, at least on my car.

Dspecs/RCE black springs, Whiteline bars: 22mmFSB, 22-24-26mmRSB.

I have different settings for street and autocross, but the car seems great both ways as well as extremely consistent and forgiving. I use 5.5TFFS F&R for street and 3.5 TFFS FR, 4-4.5 TFFS RR for autocross. The car had been awesome. Last event I had my best finish ever. It was cold and the lot was uneven so the stiff suspended R comp cars were having issues, but I pulled off my best run ever finishing first in STX and 7th overall out of 80 drivers, not to mention a girl I had co-driving with me finished first in her class and she had never driven or even rode in the car before. BTW the rest of STX was on coilovers.

I really love these struts! After I got them I was able to install the stiffer RCE Blacks. A phenomenal upgrade from the Prodrives I was using before and almost magically the whole suspension, the whole car just came together! My points jumped from high 800's very low 900's to well into the 900's and my last points score was 974! Plus the car is just way easier to drive... no more bouncing off bumpstops during high-G turns with sticky tires. HOORAY!!
That sounds like a good setting, I have a similar setup. Going to give it a try today.

What about some settings with JDM pinks (the 252/217 rates)? What settings for those for typical 04 WRX DD?

First off, I would like to educate some about these settings.

There is no TYPICAL setting for DD or AutoX/Track. There is really only one setting. That setting is called optimal. Notice how Tony never really said two settings? That's because there really isn't two. I just wanted to get that clear.
A set of springs with a set spring rate only has 1 proper dampening rate. It can work with many dampening rates, but at any other dampening rate, you will be either losing too much feel, grip or both.

The reason why people go stiffer for autocross is because it does actually improve the reaction of the car and reduce roll. However, at the end of the day, you're ultimately losing too much grip, and making the dampers do work that a spring and swaybar is supposed to do. I used to have higher settings for autocross thinking that with some doodling I could decrease the understeer a little. Then I got a bigger front swaybar, dialed down the rears and fronts. Man, what a difference... Point is, use the proper parts for the proper purpose.

Now, for the actual answer. 5-6 FR should be your optimal range. Whether you want to make it stiffer or softer than it's supposed to be, that's your call. Keep in mind that even with the best manufactured struts, there will always be some sort of variance. I imagine with cheaper struts such as these they manufacture tolerance is a bit higher, so your settings will vary.

Cool, is there a chart or something that shows dspec settings compared to spring rates? Like I thought that there would be a bigger difference between dspec settings with JDM pinks compared to blue Prodrives for example...

Yup this is all true. There is really only one optimal setting for a given spring rate to properly dampen a spring. I however knowingly stray from that setting for the exact reason stated. In autocross when trying to set up a dual role car it's nothing but compromises.

So to make the car a bit more bearable over the road I slightly under-dampen the springs. Not enough to bounce up and down three times, but just enough to take out a bit more harshness.

The same goes for autocross, but in an inverse way. I over-dampen the springs a bit there to give me a quasi-stiffer spring rate.

It's a compromise I'm willing to make with the springs and dampers and even though they may not be optimal for the springs these settings work very well for me.

Yeah, I've been sitting back, watching this thread for, what, 2 years now, shaking my head the whole time going "why on earth are people choosing the wrong damping?" the whole time.

can someone suggest what setting i should use with the tanabe GFs

325 lbs/in front
246 lbs/in rear

previously had it too stiff (2 turns and 2.5), now at 4 turns front, 4.5 rear. Feels much better. But would like advice from someone with more experience with them.

I dont care about daily driving or comfortable. I use this car at the track and autocross.

very pleased w/ride for DD setup, and even more pleased with HPDE setup. after 2 events this year, starting to get clunking from the rear, but plan to get under the car this weekend and make sure the noise source is not something else (loose endlink, sway, etc).

i am now looking at getting this same setup for my my06 wrx sedan.Tokico dspecs and swift spec r springs.
It will be a daily driver and i want to make sure i dont get something that is too stiff and bouncy.
When you say you are happy with ride, how would you describe it?

Well have you started comparing spring rates of different models? The tokicos and rce blacks I have, are not bouncy but they are stiff so i would think you would want to stay closer to oem rates.

slowly been dialing it softer.

was 4.5 tffs front and 4.75 tffs Rear for about 6-8 months
felt pretty good there.

currently at 4.75tffs front and 5 tffs rear
feels a bit too bouncy, but this is supposed to be the magic spot
