Ra-1 nt-01
Im looking to get rid of the pos stock tires for either toyo ra1s or nitto nt01s. I understand they are the same compound but with a different tread design. Which would be the tire of choice for an 08 sti. Also how long will these tires last on the street? Thanks
Please dont tell me how dumb it is and how they will suck and be deadly in the rain. I understand that and dont care. |

Having run RA-1s on the street I'd guess you'll see about 6-10k unless you autox them or use them for a track day.
While Dallas doesn't freeze, I don't know about outlying areas or where else you might drive on these. But, Toyo R-comps and 32 or less is a hazardous mix. Per Toyo: This advisory addresses the proper storage of these tires in colder climates. As seen in the picture below, tires stored and operated at sub-freezing temperatures, i.e., at or below 32°F (0°C), will lose rubber compound flexibility and may experience cracking when operated under such conditions. Not that I drove on them frequently in the rain, but I had no problem in the wet (then again, I grew up & learned to drive in Oregon). Why not get a top summer tire instead of the road-race R? It'll get you 75% or more of the performance on the street, and provide a lot more margin of comfort when temperatures dip. Just a few that come to mind... Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07 Not to mention you'll get more than 10k from any of these. But, different strokes and all that. Have fun! |

Im getting the nt01s cheaper so nt01s it is. ill probably just go with a full race tire next time around. I should have my street wheels by then. Now for some brake pads to match the tires. Pagid yellows anyone?

NT-01's are LOUD. Like "Heres comes a train! Oh, it's just that car" loud. Pagid Yellows are junk IMO. Destroyed them in one event running NT-01's. I run PFC01's and love them. These are track only pads. You definitely don't want to use them on the street, but I assume you'll swap them when you go to the track.
