An open source project cannot be "bought out". Do you think Linux will ever be bought? The only thing Cobb cares about with enginuity is the ROM disassembly. Do some searches about the timing logic on the 06 WRX and the 07 STI. Bill did a great job there.

its happened before... the original author decides to close up the project, and then relicense the code. (and then either sell it or continue on with their own private closed source company) Technically this can't be done, but it takes one of the other contributors to the code with deep pockets to challenge it. I've worked on several projects where a very similar thing happened to enguinity... The original author makes it disappear for awhile during negotiations, and when it comes back the new source never quite seems to appear, and suddenly it is being sold at a price. (not saying that is what happened here, just that it can...)

I'm not an entrepreneur. I honestly haven't read any posts where anyone speculated why the site was down. I've been too busy to browse the internet.

The team is getting together today to hopefully tie most of the loose ends together and get the site ready to go. I got some interesting news today. Stay tuned.

It has been stated by Bill and Jared that what used to be enginuity will remain open. In any case if it does not, there are plenty of us software developers to make more editors and loggers for free.

As has been said before, the site being down has nothing to do with being bought out, going commercial, lawsuits, or any other reason other than a dispute over the use of the "Enginuity" name brought by another company.

It's a cease and desist. Happens all the time. Let's get over it, and get back to naming the new version of the software, so that it can keep moving along.

Happy! Can't wait for some RomRaider decals to further bump my car's horsepower!

Congratulations and welcome back! I'm glad to hear things are progressing

Yeah, when I was in-house counsel for my old employer I sent out tons. We'd usually do it when we were bored and didn't feel like doing work...

In case it isn't clear, the new name for Enginuity has already been chosen:

RomRaider

It's already been posted in this thread.

I don't really care what the name is, it obviously doesn't matter since I know and use the software. It's a fantastic tool and what it does is the important thing.

But RomRaider sounds cheesy and unprofessional. I get the references, its clever, but to the outsider it doesn't mean anything. It also brings up nintendo emulators when google'd.

Enginuity was a great name, why not play off of that. Motec renamed their interpreter software i2. What about e/2? That way nobody gets confused by forum posts referencing enginuity, and it's not just a brand new reputation.
