interesting. But how can one "steal" signals when they're pretty readily viewed by any and everybody?

I'm astonished this doesn't happen all the time, given the technology.

I still don't get the accusation. this isn't like baseball where the catcher's signals are pretty much hidden and everybody knows that signal means what. Football's team's signals are all different, and unless you analyse them later, you don't know what they mean. Along with that, any player or coach on the field can see the signals being used by the other team.

Well, there must be something to it if it "violates NFL policy" and "could cost the Patriots a future draft pick".

So I am confused...are they SUSPECTED or GUILTY?

I get suspected from the article, but guilty from the haters here.

It does. Ever notice the coaches covering their mouths with their playbook as they're talking?

How do you analyze them for later? You get someone to record the coaches on the sideline with a camcorder.

For those of you that don't understand why this is an issue: they play the Jets...again. Thus if they can determine what many of the signals are, next game they'll know what the Jets are going to try and do.

You very well may be retarded. Unless they have a time machine, some guy recording the signals for later use would have no impact on the game being played at the time.

I'm pretty surprised it doesn't happen all the time, but its not something I am really comfortable with my team doing. I get that everyone tries to gain any advantage they can, but for me, this crosses the line.

It's too bad they don't have the brush back pitch to deal with this like baseball does.

Steal signs? Feel free ... *plunk* Next?

I used to think baseball signs were simple. Then I read Men at Work by George Will. There's about 10 pages in there about Tony La Russa and the way signals get to the catcher, pitcher, base runners, fielders... it's way, way more complex than you'd think. I can't picture football signals being much more simplistic.

Belichick seems like the kind of A-**** who'd bring a cameraman just to upset the other team.

apparently, many of you aren't too aware of the game film available to every nfl team of every game played. there are dozens of cameras recording everything. these aren't network cameras, rather they are nfl cameras.

analyzing the film later? yeah, every single team will do that, using nfl-distributed game tapes.

i noted two things from the article. both the teams complaining got their behinds handed to them. 38-0 (or close to it) at lambeau, and 38-14 at new jersey. radio-frequency issues? what, you didn't see the jammer maroney was wearing on his left elbowpad?

maybe the pack and m-e-s-s jets jets jets should look at some game film to improve the putrid offensive showings they displayed for their home crowds.

The NFL distributed game film and the stock game film are focused on the other teams defensive coaches the whole entire game? WOW!!!!!!

You're quite the Patriot mark.

exactly. there's a minimum of three signal callers sending in "signs" from the sidelines to the offense and defense. only the receiver knows which signaller is the hot read, and which are the dummys.

again, there isn't any in-game benefit to using a camera to spy. the game-action is far too quick. i'd have to believe that any other benefit is minimized, simply by the number of official cameras used by the nfl for game film.

hardly. but the game film will certainly show some of that. if you don't believe that each team has many "reporters" in various places, making notes about playcalling, signalling, and everything else, you are uninformed.

yeah, i'm a patriot mark. rather, i'm pointing out the idiocy of b*tching about getting absolutley reamed by an opponent, and then trying to lay blame for that at some "cameraman".

it would be far easier to just put someone in the stands as a "fan" and have them record the other coaches. maybe that's what happens? i don't really care.
