Thumbs up 1st Place in the NCAC at Rocky Mount

It was pretty tough but I managed to take 1st place in the Novice class by 1/2 a second. Hot on my tail in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places were Cavaliers. Who would have thought?
The course had some fast stretches and I was bouncing off the rev limiter in second gear for about 8 seconds over 2 sweeps. An automatic would have come in handy. I tried shifting to 3rd and lost a second on my time. Bummers.
The Tar Heal club put on a pretty good event. They were well organized and everybody who showed up was able to compete. They even had two beautiful young women to take pictures with when we got our trophies and they stuck around to model for pictures with the cars. -Too bad I was in a rush to get the 4 hour drive home done with.

Excellent Thom,

I am glad that someone was there to represent the Subaru community since they wouldn't let anyone else enter. Yeah, we have got some payback in store for the tarheel members when they triy to get in the Bele Chere and the 24 hour events.

Congrats!!! The Rocky Mount race is a fun one (too bad the event chairman pretty much told me not to bother to show up.) I am very glad you did well! Were the "young women" you speak of the Hawaiian Tropic girls again? They had them last year.

Wink

Thanks guys. There was a Tar Heal club 2.5RS there; Greg with a black '98. He took 3rd in STS with some stiff competition. His runs were a few tenths faster than mine.
There were 2 WRXs there too. A red sedan and a blue wagon. The wagon did pretty well.
They ran the event very efficiently and were able to let everyone race who showed up. We had 5 runs Saturday and 4 runs Sunday followed by fun runs for anybody who wanted them.
The women were from the local college. I don't remember which one. If I were 20 years younger and single...
I'll definetly be at our next CCR event ImprezedRS. If I remember correctly, it's your turn to win.

I wish I could've made it, but I haven't had the time lately. Good to hear we represented at the Tarheel event, even if they didn't deserve our presence. I can't believe they turned down people before they even showed up. Pricks.

When's the next one?

The next one? I didn't check. They were kind enough to tell me that I was forbiden to compete in their club again as a novice. That's OK. I only showed up because it was an NCAC race and don't intend to go back until the next one next year. Still, I think there is nothing wrong with each club being able to run things a little differently as long as it doesn't effect the state level competitions. So if they want to exclude a novice season trophy for their club, that's OK with me. But from my perspective as a beginner, and speaking with another "banned" novice that's in their club, I think it is discouraging to expect beginners like us to play with the big boys just because we outran the other beginners. I feel very strongly that a novice season should be a time to become familiar with the sport, learn a lot (I learn a lot at every event), and enjoy it. We only get to be a novice for one season. After that, we can play with the guys who have 10 years under their belt, continue to learn, still have fun, and start to contribute by more volunteer support to the club beyond our obligatory work shifts at events. I am very pleased with the CCR perspective on this issue and plan to provide a lot more direct support to our club in the future to demonstrate my grattitude for what we as a group provide. I extend that thanks to all of you who have made this such a pleasurable hobby.
Oh, and it helps to win occasionally.
