Default Should I wait for the 2006 Impreza?

Hi, it is a pleasure to participate in these forums for the first time; nice to meet you all. The following are some thoughts and questions I wanted help with.

Recently, I was planning on purchasing a 2005 Impreza; I intend to own the car for a while, so an automobile that is future proof is important to me. Someone mentioned in another thread that the 2006s will represent a major redesign, which brought a couple of questions to my mind:

Will the upcoming redesign (if true) produce significant changes in chassis rigidity, suspension, etc.? If not, will the changes be purely cosmetic, like those of 2002?

If the changes are to be cosmetic, I would go with the 2005, as I really like the current model's styling. However, if there is to be a large change in design for functionality, I would rethink my purchase decision.

Would anyone here pass up a 2005 model and wait for a 2006?

There's really no way at the present time to know what's going to happen for the 06 model year. The 05's are just beginning to show up. It'll be at least 8-9 months before anything firm is known about 06.

The major change is USDM MY07, not 06.

Thanks for the replies. Can anyone guess what they'll do with the 2007 models?

No car is "future proof." If you need a car now, just buy what you like. No matter how long you wait, there will always be something better on the horizon.

07 is bringing a whole new chassis, and possible a whole new direction for the line.

It may be more of a change then the simple GC to GD chassis.

But to my knowledge nobody knows, buy the car now, nothing is future proof, I have absolutley no regrets about buying my 04 when the 05s are already out, and I wouldn't swap the last 5 months with my car for the new model.

If your keeping it a long time, then it doesn't matter, just get one now.

actually if u were really smart u would wait and save money to look for an 06 during that time (of the redesign) if ur not satisfied with the 06 save money and get heavy discounts on the 05s.... but its ur choice..

just my .08 cents

I passed up an 04 for my bug eye 03 if that makes you feel better. Sometimes change is not great for "everyone." I say, "if your financially able to buy the car you want now do so. If you are not wait. The current wrx is just way to much fun to be sitting in somebody elses parking lot when it can be in yours! " There are alot of things that may change in the next design. More or Less Weight, price, design, and so forth.

Sieze the day.. Why put off for tomorrow when you can drive the hell out of today.

Since the redisign won't come till 2007 and the Impreza is a hell of a car today, I'm heavily leaning towards purchasing the 05, particularly the 2.5 RS sport package. This car is in my price range and brings all the options I wanted. It will be my first new car and the first car I have with manual transmission. I am making the switch from a 1995 Grand Cherokee Laredo I recieved 3 years ago, when I was a junior in high school.

if you keep waiting for the next years model you will never buy one cause once that model comes out you will hear rumors of the next one.

the new models are always better than the old ones, that is why cars lose value.

just buy one you like.

And do you really want to buy the first version of a big redesign anyways?

You could end up with a flashy, new design with bugs, flaws, and defects, or you could get something that is solid and proven. Get 05 WRX!

I agree! I bought my 04 last Aug. and couldnt be more happy. Although I would rather have an Sti like everyone else, this gives me a chance to be happy with it and see what will happen with the new redesigned Impreza, preferably an Sti. Just hope the former Alfa Romeo designer doesnt fugly it all up.

Sometimes, you have to draw the line somewhere. Technology will always progress. The question is how long can you wait because there will always be something better that'll come along. I say buy something that speaks to you rather than something that is newer. I'm sure there are plenty of people kicking themselves in the nuts for not getting the 2001 RS before they stopped making them.

If you are looking into the RS, the 05's look to be a good deal IMHO. The improvements are really good, plus you get a slightly more powerful engine than before, with possibly even better gains from the mods that are availible now The price of the 05 RS's seems to be good too.

But personally, If I was looking for an RS i'd go for a 00/01
