I'm looking into what to do for a radiator now.
Here is a more graphical representation of the space I actually have to work with: This photo shows the underside of the hood where the silver looking bare metal brace I have is in place. It just fits perfect within the hood, nothing can on on the front of it or top of it without hitting the hood. HOWEVER, I could mount the radiator somehow to the rear of the bracket. And here is a photo of the car with the grill and valence on. Had to put them on to make sure of clearances for the radiator. I actually have been using boxes to check distances and such as to what angles the radiator can sit at and how it will fit. If I can get ahold of a 72-74 radiator, I think that will work. Otherwise... Probably a custom job I can't really afford right now.

I think there is a guy on eBay, you send him your desired dimensions and he'll custom make you a radiator. I recall it being relatively cheap too. $200 maybe?

I'm sure there's a vehicle out there with a radiator that will fit. I checked the measurements of my Ciera radiator because it looks small, and parts are cheap and everywhere, but it only looks tiny because it sits in a cavernous opening. It's still too big for your application. |

Look into geo radiators? I know they are tiny.
And sure you could get a custom one made, but there's something about an OEM "look" that makes a build like this look even better. |

How is the radiator search coming? It's getting close to drivable and I'm (puls many others) are on the edges of our seats waiting.
Keep up the great work. |

Waiting for word back from someone who thinks they have a brand new 72-74 radiator. If that doesn't pan out, then I have to go custom.
Meanwhile, I'm fixing the ride height and installing the brake lines. |

Finished the brake lines and did some brake bleeding. I'll probably have to do it again after seeing if anything leaks (I think there might be a leak).
Also got a couple other things done in the engine bay, but on other good news I might have a radiator soon Bad news is I still don't have anyone to help with the wiring so I don't know when that will get done (if ever)... |

You're in Cali and NO ONE can help with wiring? Did you make a thread requesting help?

Yeah dude, I would be there in a heartbeat to help you with that wiring if it wasn't for the distance. There has to be some kind soul within driving distance who would help you out.
Of course personally I've only ever done stereos, and lots of them, but that harness doesn't look that frightening. I saw one out of a Cadillac once and had nightmares for a week. |

So far I've kept it to my threads (on three forums) and to facebook. I'll start making request threads after I get my radiator sorted and I know what I'll need in terms of the radiator fans.

Ah okay. I'm all, "It's Cali. Ask someone to take off an exhaust or suspension, even badges, and they're all over it! But ask them to do some REAL work and *poof* they disappear!"

Wish I was in cali, I'd help out. Do you have a schematic? Do you know how long your wires need to be?

you need fans? I have a dual fan core from a fluidyne radiator, I'd be more than happy to donate it to the cause.
I'll take measurements to see if it will work for you. Last edited by RS drifter; 08-04-2011 at 02:59 AM. |
