Stock STI 06 rear lateral links - do they have pillow balls?
Thinking of upgrading, would like to know if the stock OEM STI 06 rear lateral links have pillow balls?
Thanks!

no, just soft rubber bushings. The group-n lateral link bushings are a fair bit stiffer and pillowballs even more so.

For a true upgrade, you should get some lateral links that are adjustable with the type of ends you desire. Cusco and Whiteline come to mind. Note that some lateral links require a sway bar change as well.

That's only an upgrade if the alignment settings he's try to get to cannot be obtained with his current parts.

^^ They will also allow a change to pillowballs etc and also allow different wheel/tire combos. Additionaly, they are stiffer and help maintain whatever specs you set your suspension at even if you can achieve your desired settings with the stock LLs.
There are several good reasons to go with aftermarket lateral links regardless of desired settings, I thought you would know that. Being able to get settings beyond what you can get stock is a bonus. |

Nothing you said makes much sense at all there chief. How would they help maintain specs when you are just adding in more items that can shift and therefore throw off said alignment. I purchased the STi full pillowball set specifically to AVOID adjustable lateral links as they just create more of a headache when dealing with the suspension. Granted, they do have a place, but very few actually see some sort of benefit from them except on an aggressive track vehicle. |

Getting specs not achievable with stock LL makes sense. Having better toe adjustment makes sense. Having better camber adjustment makes sense. Being able to change track and/or fit different tire/wheel combos makes sense. Keeping the whole package at the desired spec with less flex thru stronger parts makes sense. Doesn't that all make sense? If your one and only concern is to maintain your warranty coverage on a totaly stock car, then I guess what I said wouldnt apply or make sense. |

I'm not saying they don't have a place, but for the majority of people out there they are unneeded and more than likely will do more damage than help. |

Also I would like to thank everyone else for the good info. I already have the CUSCO trailing arms and I have a deal on some CUSCO links. I am just trying to decide if the money will be best spent there. Oh...and HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!! |

As pointed out by me and daishioo, everyone has different opinions so it should come down to what you want out of it.
I need and appreciate what stronger and adjustable links do for me so I have them. Daishioo doesnt, to each their own. BTW, why did you get trailing arms before getting links? |

Hi, A friend totaled his 06 STI and I bought just about everything that was on his car at a great price. I autocross so I thought most of the parts would be helpful, including the trailing arms. I ran out of money before I got to the lateral links though. I have saved up some money since and was trying to decide if I should buy them. Thanks again for your advice... |

In summary, as an owner of adjustable links, I would DEFINITELY do the Group-N bushing upgrade to stock links if I had it to do over again. _Jeff |

You keep saying "stock stamped steel"...but the STi has tubular aluminum lateral links...and the WRX has tubular steel ones. The links don't really need to be upgraded...The bushings are the part that needs improvement. |

My mistake. I changed mine out so long ago that I thought I remembered them being stamped steel like the trailing arm. My goal was to optimize my rear settings and that wasnt possible with the stock links. I forget what the limiting factor was, just that I had to get adjustable links. Fontucky? You mean NASA? Oh,now I see the link to the SOLO AX stuff. I have done a few AXs and had a lot of fun. I think I even did one with you guys one windy day last winter at Fontana. I'll try and go to some if it fits my schedule. I have about 15 car races planned as well as about 20 motocross races for my kids and some DH bike races too. I have my whole "team" to consider... |
