Or even just a set of long tube headers and a stock exhaust will get you some amazing sound and some extra power.

If he wants an intake i would suggest a volant intake with the donaldson powercore filter (100k mile filter, AMAZING filtration). Oh and a reflash, i have the 5star sct tune on mine and it really turns it into a beast (rolling burn outs at 20-30mph with god year MTR's)
Thanks for the input!

The Stainless Works looks nice. Also, the Magnapack sounds bad ass but I don't know if he'll be crazy about cutting things. I'll be sure to recommend the tune and filter as well.

EDIT: Do you have a link for the filter? I can't seem to find the exact part.

I bought my raptor sans test drive. I can't conceive of another vehicle I'd rather be driving.

Filter:
http://volant.com/edetail.asp?ID=75&ptype=f

Intake:
http://volant.com/edetail.asp?ID=1110

Vendor:
http://marylandspeed.com/volant-cold...26-p-3782.html

If he isnt going to be doing a bunch of wheeling/desert runs he could get the intake with the optional ram air runner. If he is going to wheel or offroad more i wouldnt get that version as it will end up with more dirt in the intake box (the filter will handle it just fine, you just wont get 100k miles out of it if it gets clogged with dirt)

older pic of my 2 5.9 ZJ's. All typical 9'er bolt ons, + both rocking SCT tunes. The black one also has 1.7RR's and slightly hotter cams and is now lifted on 32's.

here's a long boring vid of the white one in the snow a couple of years ago. One day i'll edit it down to highlights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sgz_46ehm68

How bad is the mileage on a raptor?

What makes it so nice? I feel like I'd rather have a hopped up version of the ecoboost motor rather than the big engine in the raptor, but maybe I'm missing the point.

So, here's a good one:

My wife does not like our Armada. She says its too big, drives like a truck, etc. Yesterday we see a 4 door Titan for sale on slightly bigger/beefier tires. She says "Maybe you should get a truck like that". I'm like but just say "yeah, we can check those out later on".

For me I'll stick with the armada for now, it does what I need it to do and I've got a utility trailer for when I need to haul stuff with it. 182k miles and still going strong!

I've been driving around rural Nashville and averaging at about 13mpg. But, I'm using the manual mode and probably consistently over-revving. Either way, I did quite a bit of driving in the past few days and am just under half a tank but I think that's probably because the tank is massive.

If your wife thinks the Armada is too big, then she would probably feel the same way about the Raptor. While it's damn nimble for its size you are definitely aware of how big it is once you get into traffic, narrow streets, etc.

i get about 11mpg actual mpg, not "shown on the dash".

HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE difference between a raptor and an eco boost.

1. The skin of the cab its self is actually thicker according to a few shops that have done weld in cages (4 layers of sheet metal vs 2 in an ecoboost).

2. The running gear (axles, drive shafts, etc) are more akin to a 250 and 250 then a 150.

3. The width of the vehicle, its about 6.5 inches wider then a stock f150 which makes it STUPID STABLE at speed or when cornering.

5. Steering and suspension are setup to take advantage of all of the above.

6. The interior is the same as an eco boost with a few tweaks here and there.

7. The suspension is AMAZING for a stock setup, the raptor rides smoother then a BMW or a benz on the highway. It also isnt so bad off road either.

The negatives are as follows

ITS A BIG OLE BITCH

Its MPG sucks

But couldn't you do that whole thing with an ecoboost engine under the hood to negate (slighty) the poor mileage?

What advantage does the thicker skin on the cab give? Quieter interior? More rigid?

You would end up paying more then the raptor to do that.

You can do long travel suspension to get a wider tracker and better articulation but you are going to be making more compromises then you would with a stock raptor setup.

You will also look a bit retarded unless you do raptor style fenders (front and rear) to make the over all look of the truck more solid.

You will also be missing the low end tq of the 6.2l and trading it for higher end power (if you really tweak out the ecoboost and go larger turbo/better internals).

Basically for all the money you would have to spend on the ecoboost it makes 0 sense to do it unless you are targeting one or two things you want to do better (e.g. i want a super bad ass suspension for desert racing, or crawling, etc).

The raptor is just an amazing all around package for street/offroad/desert bombing.

Ecoboosts are nice but if i would have gotten one i would have traded it in on a raptor after test driving the raptor.

More rigid, not sure if it would be quiter given the tires and exhaust note vs a ecoboost. Mine with mtrs is NOT QUIET.

That pretty much sums it up

I think thechickencow is simply asking why Ford doesn't offer the Raptor as-is except with the Eco-boost engine instead of the 6.2 or at least as an option.

The stock suspension in the Clever Girl really is astonishingly good. There's a chicane on a very quiet country road near my mother's home that I was able to blast through like I was in a modern Mustang.

-----

So my dad went ahead and ordered a Corsa package that comes with an exhaust and intake. I'm trying to convince him to get that reflash. He's never done a reflash and mapping himself so he simply doesn't know exactly how surprising it can be.

Truth be told, the thing is plenty quick already.

Yes ecb, that is what I'm asking.

My friends get >20mpg in their ecoboosts, I'd assume high teens would be possible in an ecoboost motor'ed raptor.

No ecoboost because while they are nice, they arent putting out stock the HP and TQ numbers that SVT wanted. Also they wanted to use their new flagship v8 on their flagship truck, and they no doubt wanted the V8 sound associated with it given the stock exhausts noise level.

All that being said i would LOVE an ecoboost v8 option in a raptor.

I was reading some stuff about a year ago about it, and it had to do with the power steering systems. If I remember correctly, the ecoboost uses an electric powersteering pump that couldn't keep up with the beefier suspension on the raptor.

I average 13.5 on the computer, mostly highway, no gentle accelerations.

Combination of things: 90 in the Raptor feels smoother than my previous F150 did at any speed. The interior is comfy and well featured. The stock exhaust sounds great while not being obnoxious. You get the ground clearance of a lifted truck without really looking like a brolifted brotruck. Good offroad capability for a factory vehicle. Drives more like a car than most trucks I've driven, was easy for the wife to handle.
