Default WRX Performance on Snow/Ice??

I got my WRX in July, so I haven't had the chance to drive at all on snow/ice, cept yesterday when we got a tiny bit of snow on the roads up here in fbx. I slid around a corner but felt like I had control the whole time.

How is everyone else's experience on driving on snow/ice? I do still have the stock tires.

I had studs and a sandbag in my car last winter, even on the worse days didn't have a single issue!

Sandbag? Why? You already have 100% of your weight over the drive wheels. With a sandbag added you'll have 100% of your weight over your drive wheels.

Well I think that with a engine of one set of drive wheels and a empty trunk over the other doesn't exactly spread the weight evenly over the car, wanted to have some more weight over the back so I wouldn't have to worry about the a$$ swinging out as I went around a corner.

Get some snow tires. I'm sure the stock RE92's would be fine but why not just get decent snow tires. They are pretty cheap at Costco or order some from Tirerack. Shipping is pretty cheap.

This is going to be a weird winter for me. I grew up driving a Chevy Cheyenne. I could rally that thing so hard around snowy corners, Im talking like perfect drifts. I put about 200 pounds of sandbags and a gigantic peice of 2 gage scrap metal. The whole reason I added weight back there wasn't so i didn't lose control in corners, but so when i stopped at a stoplight, i had 300 pounds over the back wheels to get me started again, without it I would just spin out. I also let a crap load of air out of the tires to let more tire surface hit the snow. I have driven in snow with the RS but not enough to learn how to drift it yet. I wish i could take off the AWD so I already knew how to drift perfectly Live and Learn.
