Yeah. The entire driveline, suspension, climate control, and any broken electrical parts.

This is a WJ, not an XJ.

Hondaslayer, I'm currently negotiating the terms of a more permanent return. They were swamped on this particular build and asked me to assist.

I'm guessing we know each other in some capacity seeing as the LR community is so small, if I ever log on this site with a computer I'm sure the location will make the connection. I roam across dweb, d90 and actually havent been on pirate much but now that you mention it...

Small world.

Seems likely. My username, as well as my real name, is Ash on all of the Rover sites I belong to.

This will also (hopefully) satisfy my mod-itch, as I don't really want to do anything to the Cadillac!

Should have it back Wednesday or Thursday of this week! ~$2500 to pull, remachine and rebuild, and reinstall the engine with a new core, oil pan, plugs, and water pump... Includes a 1 year warranty with roadside assist. Seems like a pretty decent deal, getting a rebuilt engine and having it installed would have run closer to 4k, and of course the dealer wants around 9-10k to install a brand new engine.

Once I get it back I'm planning on driving it for the next month or so to break in the engine and figure out what else needs replacing. Anything in particular I should pay special attention to? I suspect I'll need to replace the rotors and calipers. Barring any other critical repairs, the top priorities will be to install a 3" or so lift (probably OME) with 33's, and gut and replace the crappy Infinity stereo and speakers. Hopefully I have enough clearance in my garage to do the suspension work myself... Will post pics later this week and as it progresses!
You'll need more than 3" for 33's unless you're ok with cutting the body. Lifting more than 3" gets expensive too. I run 32s and about a 3" lift, and I had to trim my bumper and lengthen my bumpstops. Also you might need a new front driveshaft depending on which one you have.

I haven't had any issues with my WJ other than a leaking PS hose. Blend doors are a common problem, as are warped rotors. Its common to switch to the Akebono calipers that came on the 03+ to stop that.

Ouch, I mean $2,500 is okay since the truck is free. Is it a V8?

Yeah, I'm OK with trimming the body. May look into some replacement fenders for protection and cosmetics down the line, but for now I'm planning to just trim and roll. I don't want to go more than 3" just yet b/c a) don't want to increase the CoG all that much, it's high already to begin with, and b) don't want to have to drop the cash for long arms and the rest of what's needed for 4+ if I don't have to.

Not planning on getting too crazy, would like to be able to run 2s and 3s at some of the OHV parks around here, so 33's should be sufficient. I'm thinking of trying to find some 255/80r17s. Tall and (relatively) thin... I probably will end up going bigger in a couple years, but gonna ease my way back into it (been 12 years or so since I owned a 4x4 truck - owned a couple Broncos back in the day).

Been reading up on the blend doors and the calipers, I'm pretty sure the calipers were never replaced so that's on the short list. Hearing about the blend doors makes me wonder if my sister got ripped off the 2 or 3 times the a/c "went out". Pretty sure they said they were replacing the compressor each time.

Yup, 4.7L. Lowest quote I could find around here, especially with any kind of warranty, and they have great reviews online. Checked out their shop and what the engines they were working on at the time, seemed pretty legit.

I'm quite anxious... Should be picking it up tomorrow or Saturday!

that and the Flatop are intriguing. I'd love some half doors but they're $texa$ and only match the '07-'10 interior.

I just got a smoking deal on a 110 Pickup. It's a super clean '85 with zero rust. I'll be yanking the turbo diesel out and doing a GM 5.3 or 5.7 transplant, then painting and probably equipping it nearly identically to the silver 110. Super stoked on this project as it'll become my new daily when complete.

Out of curiosity, what do 90/110/Defenders go for? I have only found 1 or 2 for sale in the area for sale and they were both 45-60 grand.

90s can be had for under 35 94-97 NAS, 110 NAS will run you 60k. 25 year or older versions can come in under 10k for project runners.

The UK guys (globallandrovers.com etc) can find you anything from 5k to 20k on an import.

Now grey market 90/110/130s can get into the high end range again.

For NAS trucks, which are the ones legally imported by LRNA, there's a lot of variables. '97 is the desirable year for the 90's due to the automatic gearbox and distributor-less ignition. You probably won't get into one for under 25 in most cases. A pristine example with a chassis that isn't full of holes will fetch mid 40's, and sometimes more depending on where they're sold.

Decent 94-96 trucks can be had for high teens to mid 20's in several instances. There's always the guy who wants 60k for a mediocre example, but they don't represent the market.

And the '93 110's are pretty much 50k+ no matter what. Even when they're in pieces.

The problem with the 25+ trucks is that they're all on farm duty, and few have much left in them. You can buy a turd for £1,000, but expect to completely rebuild it. The market here in the US has certainly driven prices up, so the decent trucks are usually in the £3,000-£4,000 range. The guys importing and flipping them are charging stupid premiums which isn't helping. Fortunately one of the big ones just got pinched by multiple 3-letter agencies, so things could change.

Grey market trucks are a different story altogether. Today you couldn't give one away due to recent happenings, but a Puma-spec (07+) 90 or 110 will fetch north of 60 most days.
