I highly doubt the oil drain plug was impacted on.
Should be a 17mm. I usually use a long 17 wrench n hit my palm on the end til it comes loose if the bolt is tight. Kinda acts like you are using an impact but can control it unlike an impact where you could cause damage. |

I thought the same. Unless the dealer did an oil change already, it wouldn't surprise me it is the dealer.
Use a 6 point socket, usually an impact socket (most are 6 point) and a half inch ratchet it should come off. If not I'm sure you can touch it with heat as oil gets to 200+ temp, just touch it or run the car till hot and make sure the oil does not touch you. But that shouldn't be needed. |

Lube boys dont know their own strength a lot of times and just torque way to much. Could try putting box end of wrench on plug then getting a 18mm or so and put the box end of it on the 17mm open end to give more leverage.

Hammer on a slightly smaller socket so it is literally stuck on. At this point the drain plug is sacrificed, and you will use the largest breaker bar or cheater bar you have (maybe both).
I'd go for the 4'-5' steel pipe on the end of your ratchet/breaker bar for maximum leverage. Buy a new drain plug ahead of time and done. Edit: unless it's really rounded off.... Last edited by RavensFan7; 06-28-2013 at 10:33 PM. |

It has to be 16mm or 17mm. Wrx I know are 17. Its not going to be standard. If it is beyond tight that a 1/2 impact(even cheap one) can't get it off your pan threads should be fubar.
Two options, 1st being easiest 1) got buy extractor sockets tap the size that fits on and get ratchet/breaker bar and be done. 2)Get a hammer and a chisel(if you have access to an air hammer with the right bit it will be easier) make a small cut into side of plug head(don't hit pan),so you have something to bite. Then angle chisel to where it will spin plug left to break loose. |

And then fumoto valve it. One of the best mods I ever made.

Hammer on a smaller socket and use a breaker bar or the handle of a jack.
If this doesn't work find someone who can weld and weld something to it and back the bolt out and put a new one on it. No way it can be that stuck. If it was that tight they would just strip it out. Leverage is your friend. |

The dealer did not put it on with an impact gun. Rookies. We have seen more then a few drain plus for no reason be very difficult to get out and have even used an air hammer to break loose. I've only seen one case where a new pan was needed. You're lucky you got it off. Bringing in a screwed up drain plug would have probably turned into something you had to pay for.
