Default EJ18 to EJ25 swaps with 4EAT?

Has anyone put a EJ25 into a 4EAT trannied EJ18? I wonder what the stall point will be if I bolt the EJ25 onto the small 1.8 torque converter? I'm sure the stall point will be higher, but by how much?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the converter itself determine the stall speed and not the engine that turns it? I was under the impression that the 'stall speed' was directly related to RPM and nothing else. My logic is such because when purchasing a converter in, let's say Summit, for a Chevy, the converter is rated at a certian RPM stall speed. The manufacturer doesn't know if it's going to live behind a 500HP or 200HP motor. Again, I may be wrong...just my train of thought here

No. The final stall speed will be affected by the torque output of the motor, the overall gear ratio, and the weight of the vehicle. That's why the ads always say something like '500rpm higher than stock', rather than give an actual number.

Since the 2.5 will be making more torque, the stall speed will actually be lower. That is, if past experience with superchargers holds true.

Oh dear. That's not what I was hoping for
I was thinking back to when I had a vehicle with a 2.8l V6 and raised the stall speed by fitting a converter from a 2.0l 4-cyl version. That raised the stall speed about 4 or 500rpm.

Torque Converter Fact & Function

First, you need to understand the functions of a torque converter. One of the jobs of the converter is to act as a fluid coupling from the motor to the transmission. Another, and a very important function, is torque multiplication. What remains is stall speed, a very misunderstood term. Stall speed is directly related to the amount of torque your engine produces (the greater torque, the higher the stall speed). For example, a converter with a 2800 to 3200 rpm rating might provide approx. 3200 rpm of stall speed behind the big block making 500-plus lbs of torque and in a small block with less torque it's possible to only have a stall speed of 2800. Without knowing how much torque your engine produces, you cannot know how much stall speed a converter is capable of.

Well, after a lot of procrastination, I finally swapped the engine.

A 1.8 converter behind a 2.5 does not appreciably raise the stall point, no more than 100~200rpm. I get a less creep at idle, but that's about it.
The smaller converter definately has less moment of inertia, so there's less flywheel effect.

Was a MY'00 phase II EJ18 with 4EAT, now it's an '05 or (more likely) '06 EJ25 from a JDM Outback 2.5i with my original 4EAT, converter et al. AWD.
I'm using everything from the original engine except the shortblock with heads, timing belt, belt tensioner and fuel injectors.
ECU is stock with an emanage.

On the chassis side I have the '01 RS wheels, RE928s, '02 WRX front and rear brakes, AGX struts and ver.5 springs.
