Reposting this in the new thread:

Looking for a really thin bucket to check valve lash. Not trying to tip my valves but looks like that may be the best course of action. Just want to check with a thin bucket to confirm.
I'll be picking one up from the dealer here shortly, but right now I have $0.34 in the car fund

In other news my MR2 will finally be here this weekend. I can start the rebuild on that once the subie is done!

The first post was just a quick copy/paste from the last thread. I intend to update it later today. Once the old threads are removed to DTS then normal users have no access, thus not even needed.

As long as you aren't obnoxious it shouldn't be a big deal. There is a law though about cruising the strip. You can't pass the same point more than twice in a specific period of time. Gonna have to look it up, it may or may not still be in effect.

it is still in effect, we actually were warned about it yesterday at work. From what I understand there's actually a cop there regularly who monitors/enforces.

I personally think it is a waste of an officer. Traffic can get bad sometimes but it's part of a beachfront. I actually got pulled over by an older officer that said my exhaust was too loud evn though it is only an SPT...

you do know that anything, EVEN SPT, is illegal to have installed on your vehicle in VA?

so be lucky you only got a warning

Hmm.. If you buy a Nismo edition Z that comes with a performance exhaust you are alright. I'm not sure about SPT..

But yeah, anyways, it's the same in Mass. Anything that did not come on the car from the factory is illlegal.

I am not sure what they can do to out of state cars other than pull them over and give 'em a good talkin' to. I did get pulled over here for speeding coming on to 64; the cop commented on my exhaust being loud(dump tube from EWG) but nothing more. Didn't hesitate to issue me a speeding ticket though

Most states are like this. I've found if you're not a douchecanoe when you get stopped for it you can get away with a warning.

PS to all, first post updated.

If it is an option that is sold by the dealer, annnnnnnd you can prove it was installed at the time of the vehicles initial purchase by the dealer that is the only way an exhaust is legal... IE it came on the car when it was brand new. Loophole, but a hard one to prove.

while this is true and it is a loophole, its not as solid as the Nismo Line of performance factory parts. The SPT is an added after part, that is a dealer option. Where if the judge/LEO did know, many would be with fix it tickets in the HR

Agreed. My buddy Tray in Newport News has an FJ that he purchased the TRD parts package and had installed at time of purchase. Got an exhaust ticket, and had a hell of a time getting out of his ticket. He did, but it was almost not worth the effort. Had he not held on to his original purchase papers / window sticker he would have never been able to prove it.

Yet, Harley Davidson's still get sold with straight pipes and never get messed with.

What clutch would y'all recommend for a car making an estimated 320-330+ lbs/tq (maybe at the wheels don't' know, can't dyno the car due to the slipping clutch...) This is a daily driver and I'm old so I don't want to need to have knees like the Hulk to drive it.

back story= the clutch finally went kaput along with the clutch fork last month. We threw in a brand new Spec Stg 1 clutch that Shawn had given to me after he traded in his WRX. We'll the bugger isn't holding and slipping in 5th. It slips with any amount of gas that isn't literally nursing it speed (like passing a Prius and saving gas speed) any sudden pedal movement causes it to slip. NOT JUST STOMPING IT. It doesn't seem to disengage completely in 4th either. The Stage 1 is rated at 280 lbs. My power estimates are based off of similar builds.

The exedy stage 1 or ACT extreme duty clutch would work. The exedy is rate at 425 lbs and the ACT is rated at 565 lbs. Either one will be able to handle your power output. I have the extreme 6 puck sprung in my car. You definitely don't want that. lol.

How many miles since the install? Some staged clutches require being babied / break-in and can take up to 1500 - 2000 miles. I wouldn't be so quick to assume there is a problem with the clutch itself.
