Default changing stock muffler and air filter

I would like to know if anyone has changed stock muffler to Subaru catback performance muffler and cold air filter. If so, can the job be done by me, I do have a lift in my house and have some experience working on my other cars. I want both more horsepower but more importantly greater sound. The car is a 2007 sti limited so I am reticient about using after market parts and would like to keep the car Subaru. Please advise

Easy mods, wording is not clear on the intake? Muffler can be done with little effort, esp. since your car is new.

What is the resource I should go to as it seemed that the muffler is welded on as opposed to clamped with removable bolts. Thanks

its not welded, the flange is by the rear left axle. the muffler will come off the car in under 15 minutes... you have a lift at your house??? or a jack?

There is no power to be gained with a muffler or even a catback while the 2 stock cats are still in place in front of it. Get a downpipe first
On the STI, and ONLY the STI, there is a little power to be gained with a GOOD intake. The only 2 known to NOT cause problems, and produce gains without causing problems with the air/fuel ratio are the
K&N Typhoon short ram (with the shield)
APS 65mm cold air intake.

Both will net you about 7-10whp according to multiple dyno charts that have been done by members of nasioc and a couple other boards. Again, this is ONLY on the STI. (which you have)

If you are looking for sound and some more power

Here is what you will want
Turboback exhaust system
Engine management.

Then go for one of those 2 intakes.

No such thing as a Protune if he goes with any of the other EM setups out there other than an AP. There are a few great options out there other than the AP.

Really, buying an AP at this point is a dumb move anyway if you have access to a professional tuner. You can buy a $70 cable and use the OpenECU software for free.

Professional tune is VERY worth it.

It seems almost impossible to stay all subaru if you want more power. You could try gutting your downpipe, but I wouldn't do that without the proper know how. Or if you just want sound and power without too much work yourself get some EM or a tune, and get a turbo-back exhaust. As for the intake it really isn't necessary yet, if you want to hear you're turbo spool up you could try taking out the intake silencer.
