93 oct, E85, +Methanol injection, Race fuel, Straight methanol -What's the hierarchy?
93 oct, E85, +Methanol injection, Race fuel, Straight methanol - What's the hierarchy?
This is a question best answered by tuners, because they would have experience. (That doesn't mean others can't have a valid opinion.) We're seeing improved times and HP numbers through the usage of E85 lately. It appears obvious to me, that this fuel is an obvious upgrade to the best of 93 oct, yet probably falls short compared to methanol injection? 50/50 water/meth? Race fuel alone? Race + meth? Straight methanol? What's your experience on the hierarchy of fuel systems, and potential percentages of gains/losses by each? I'm looking to learn here. Let's discuss. Coop

Great question Coop, I've been thinking long about his one because it seems like people are getting huge results from E-85 without the worries of running meth/water and having it empty or the fail safes failing (seen a few of those). Not to mention the added cost of meth/race fuels, etc...
I can't wait to hear from the tuners on this. |

C16>E85>110oct>100oct=meth+pump gas
C16 is supposed to have better knock resistance than E85, but who has knock on E85? . Actually Buschur Racing stop running C16 on Bad Bish because is just not worth it. E85 FTW |

actually I am a friend of daves and when the bb ran 9.0's it was on vp import and the hierarchy is vpimport>q16>c16>e85>110>meth+pump>100ul.Straight methanol is not a good option due to its corrosive nature. And thanks to seam18337's and Dvae's recommendations and availability in ohio e85 is the schitt.

no he got tired of spending $100+ for a 5gal pail of vp,he really likes to just drive the car normal like everyone else but still have the power sitting there and hes like me there is e85 stations all around him.E 85 is a great inexpensive alternative to race fuel and you can run it everyday and the cars love it.

what are you finding that you have to change with your fuel lines to run e85? can you run bigger injectors with fuel rails, and dual in tank walbros with out causing your stock fuel lines to be eaten up by the e85?

Yes your fuel lines will be fine you just need a larger fuel system(dual walbros, bosch 044, whatever) larger injectors and adjustable FPR to set static pressure accordingly.I am running id2200@50psi static w/ dual modded walbros and at 28.5 psi I am at 70% idc running the hta86.

Ive had a Snow Meth kit for over a year now with no problems. Did he have some sort of fail-safe?

e85>all race fuels.
Its cost of performance. E85 can match most of the race fuels minus VP import perhaps but who wants to spend that much per gallon on fuel... I don't have experience with meth injection and we don't get 93. |

Good E85 is really at least as good as C16 for our applications. Pump + meth injection isn't as capable depending on what pump gas you have. Our 91 + meth isn't even in the same world as E85.
Thanks -- Ed |

It was and there was a fail safe on it that failed. I can't remember all the details but like 06-wrx-tr said, in the end, it cost him his motor. Sorry I don't have the details, it's been a while since he and I talked about it.

Coop I'd run E85 if we had it up here at more than just a couple stations (30 minutes away), none that are in my town
John how are you finding the qaulity and consistancy of the E85 in Ohio? |
